    Dandruff help.

Well I have had long hair for most of my teenage/young adult life and recently (about 8 months ago anyways) had to cut it all off for work, since i have cut my hair off and have been wearing it short (really short ive found i look better with a #2 or #1 buzzcut) my scalp has been drying out and I have had very persistent dandruff! I guess the slight oil from my long hair prevented this before happening before hand, anyone have any ideas to help i have tried SO MANY different things...

selsun blue (selenium sulphide shampoos) DONT USE COMMONLY MAKES PEOPLES HAIR FALLOUT .. too my horror i not only had dandruff but my itchy flaky scalp was shedding hair! AVOID THIS STUFF LIKE THE PLAGUE!

T-gel (benzoyl peroxide shampoo) semi effective but the dandruff came back its also very expensive

Olive oil and lime juice mixture, read on several natural remedy sites this would help, and it has but not much

using baking soda to scrub/wash my hair 1-2 times weekly, once again found on home remedy site dried scalp further

And slight changes to diet, the dandruff has been very persistent and is affecting my confidence with women, my wardrobe has a lot of dark colors and my head is often itchy due to dry scalp so i feel like without constant brushing of my shoulders and what not the dandruff could be visable. No one has said anything yet but im still paranoid about it. Any help or ideas would be appreciated . Thanks

If you believe this problem was solved before because of the natural oils of your long hair, then I suggest using jojoba oil as a deep conditioning treatment. After shampooing your hair with hot water (and preferably a clear shampoo with some clarifying properties - normally a volumizing shampoo is sufficient), drench it with jojoba oil (including the roots, which shouldn't be too hard if your hair is short) and cover it with preferably a hot towel. This will open the cuticle of your hair, allowing the jojoba oil to somewhat penetrate the shaft. Keep the jojoba oil on your hair for 30 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Do this as much as needed. You don't need to worry about weighing your hair down since it's short.

I think this could help you, since you're saying you have dry scalp, and olive oil has helped you somewhat. Lime juice is an acid - it's essentially there to close the cuticle of your hair (to seal the olive oil in), but can also dry your hair and scalp out further. It's preferable to simply rinse your hair with cold water at the end of your shower to seal the cuticle, and perhaps dry it using the cold option on the blow dryer.

Also, the thing about jojoba oil is that it's properties are extremely similar to the natural oils found in human hair, so it could be more tolerated with the scalp than olive oil.

If you can't find jojoba oil, then I suggest also using coconut oil - but be careful! If that stuff touches your face, expect a few pimples!

P.S. You have to understand that there are multiple causes of dandruff. Sometimes, it's a dry scalp. Other times, it's fungus. Whatever the cause, the treatment will be different, so some treatments may not work for you.

Try head and shoulders dandruff conditioner. I had dandruff when I was younger (haven't had any in years) and it got rid of it for me.

Go to the doctor and get "ketoconazole 2% shampoo" I use that and literally I haven't had a dandruff problem for a month. It's a nice feeling too.

Thanks i havent tried jojoba oil though i have read about it , i believe it was helped by my natural oils because the itching and flaking only occurred after shaving my hair down.
Tried it didnt help at all :\
Im hoping someone can give some more suggestions, i dont want to go to the doctor till i have exhausted all other possibilities but i will take note of the prescription you mentioned, thanks for the answers any other suggestions guys ?

Trust me ive tried everything possible without prescription. They work for a bit but the dandruff always comes back. This is the only one I've had luck with so far but I'll keep you posted if my dandruff comes back again. With our insurance I think the shampoo ended up costing like $15, not much to pay to get rid of dandruff in my opinion.
