This is like an age of empires type of game. It doesn't really tie in with idea presented on other threads.

A few ideas we have tossed around based on this map:

    ((PVP))

I can see on the given map, areas where special events can be made out. You can see that on the map, Britannia is not considered a Civilized land. Neither is Sarmatia.

One of the PVP events, like Zypur's suggestion, could be about exploration, and conquest of new savage lands. Not only do you have to worry about the savages in the wilderness, you also have to worry about the enemy factions controlling more of the territory than you do, so you have to rush there to kill them. If you die, you respawn in a controlled area. If your team controls no territory, you spawn back in your homeland, the losers.

This game type can be played by 4-32 people, across 8 flags on each "zone." If your faction owns the "zone," you own the lands as a faction, and get a special bonus. This can be anything from an armour-enhancement to an entire faction's boost of stat.

    My definitions of groups:

Clan: Small group less than 32.
Sect: Group of people in a faction, related only by character profession.
Faction: Nation of people, united for the same cause, regardless of profession, larger than 1000.

    My definitions of "zones":

Flag Zone: Smaller inner zone of the wargame, in which clans from rivaling factions can contest for the section of land. The owners, as a clan, of the larger 2/3 of the territory (flags) win the land and end the wargame.

Land Zone: One of 32 pieces of western Russia (Sarmatia) to construct the whole of the Land Zones. - Prize given to clans for owning each land zone (Small, as in armour or enhancement charm.)

Sarmatia: When your Faction owns all of Sarmatia, Your faction is given a significant statistics boost for the extent of the time it is held. (+5 levels to all skills)

You aren't always in the battles that effect your faction. Though you get a nice prize for winning, you don't get the best prize until you are the best faction.

    ((Game Theme))

...civilization against civilization in an attempt to 'take over the world'...

    ((Gameplay))

The only reason why I chose this time frame is that people around this time actually did fight for the territories, with respect to each individual group of people. Grecian people were just Athenians or Spartans. Romans weren't in power. Egyptians weren't growing in their prime. Persians didn't dominate the west. It's a fair game, where you can change the history of man. may favourite thing is that you can make a vast array of weapon styles that show, if you have a Greek sword, and your Egyptian, you must have killed a Grecian man.

This is a world map. You could easily explore this territory from ground level, not necessarily be playing it like RISK, which is what I'm presuming you are thinking.

I don't think I completely understand your idea, because it still appears like an age of empires type of MMORPG, and i just don't know about the direction that we're looking at.

The conception that the staff is working with seems to be quite different than the kids who are throwing out ideas thus far, and let me explain why.

Kids who come to sythe.org come here for one reason - Runescape.

Typically, in the past, people have played MMORPGs that relate to Knights in armour, and chivalry.

In reality, back in the middle ages, people did not wear full mail in combat, because it was too restrictive, and is still vulnerable when the opponent is quicker than you are. Much more commonly, small bits of plate were used in a light mail, with thick leathers under, and very weak joints. This allows you to out-move your enemy, and have the final blow. A good shield was still used, but an overly cumbersome full shield was usually only used by the largest of men, as they again took too much time to move, and required too much effort, wearing men down in battle.

An MMO that is based on reality is better suited for today's gamer, as it is more immerse, and can attract a broader age range of users to the game.

People do not ultimately care about the blood level in a game, so long as the content is true. People also do not care about the world in a game, so long as there is always something new to be explored. With this theme in the game, we can literally re-create the history of the world.

Maybe the staff should release their ideas on the game then? What Sythe is planning to do, the game concepts etc. That way instead of wasting my time working on classes and storylines that aren't within the staff's viewpoint that the game should be heading in, I can work on what is accepted and try to mold ideas around that.

This is the idea, essentially. We don't want a Medieval setting. We don't want the Future. We don't want Modern Day. Keep in mind, in the time frame I've listed, people were building castles, and The Pyramids, and The Parthenon. There can still be significant buildings, and events. I could see a "Quest" event for someone who is from the Parthian Empire being something like destroying the Library at Alexandria. A counter quest would be defending it's goods from the oncoming assault, by taking it's books into hiding.

This sort of information needs to be shared in a thread. Almost every user ( almost ) has stated they want a medieval type of game.

On top of this, most of the ideas people are coming up with are based around the medieval era.

Yes, but those statements I just made are not set in stone. My saying that is based on the reaction of the moderation team to your ideas. I've been watching this closely.

I definitely like the idea of steering away from the Medieval setting, so I voted yes. You seem to have some great ideas about the content, and I completely agree with you.

I'm glad you do. I'm sick of seeing every RPG be based on Zelda or have towering castles, with no culture outside of King Arthur.

I thought about it, and removing the magic part would be a nice thing to do.

I really liked my Roman time zone suggestion, and this is close enough. Making this work would be much easier than working on a complex storyline and new world thingy. Making a more real game would be quite fun.... also i would love to see how we make the real citys look like.

When I posted about a Roman setting it quickly went back to WoW, and stuff which I was thinking about, but this I think is much better, and much easier to think of storys and stuff.

You could pick your race (nationality speaking), and then you can pick your class, which each race has a few speical classes on their tree... going in this direction is much easier and i think a few people could get the main comabt system for this type of game up within hours compared to many people taking days for one like wow, rs, or guild wars.

My opinion exactly. I don't think it's appropriate to have fairies and goblins wandering around southern Italy.

Quite a good setting. Though as previously stated the realism of the game will have to match the specific time of the age.

Though perhaps we can have more colonies in the countries? Just to broaden the topic.

Or more city states and councils. Your pick.

The thing is people need to understand we don't need to stick to realism, We could make it in a mythical age where things that never existed could exist. Places could be named differently and the environment doesn't have to be the same.

The results that I see here are that people, though they have their own ideas, don't oppose to this one. I like the way this is themed, because it does not center itself in a complex storyline, but rather in events that we can use from history, such as the crusades.

This is definitely a new concept, though I believe the game was headed more
    towards a medieval theme.

Yeah, the kids here would naturally draw that way, considering that 90% of MMO is Medieval. Besides, most people here play Runescape, and just suggest another version of that, which we shouldn't be making.

I like your idea, I just see most people leaning towards a medieval theme.
In my opinion a Mediterranean theme would be fun, its a different side most
    people have not experienced.
