99 Slayer

I’m seeing a bundle of different opinions on the road from 1-99 slayer.
On one hand, I have watched a few video’s, like Autumn Elegy, saying that it’s better to spend money on the skill and be efficient, he gauges its
Roughly 350M (Gear, Cannonballs & Pots) and will be a 50M loss at the end of 99 slayer doing it efficiently, in 350 hours.
(This is assuming you make 300M from slayer, so it’s -50M for the 99)

Then I see other video’s of people selling their 99 slayer loot tab & it’s roughly 500-700M

So I’m a bit confused on what the number range really is. Obviously there will be a difference in numbers, person to person, but what is the steadfast range?
How much can be expected to profit going the long/inefficient route of slaying?
(600 hours)

 

I believe that slayer gp per hr gain comes from unique drop also by slayer bosses like GWD tasks.

 

I got 99 Slayer before the drop table buffs and I didn't do tasks that were bosses (some weren't out when I did it) so I ended up losing GP for sure. How much I don't know, but that 50M range sounds correct to me. I would cannon every task that was cannonable and spent plenty on prayer pots/general potions as well.

Here's the thing though, if you're playing for max, Runecrafting is going to get you so many of the buyables if not all of them, so you can afford to splurge on Slayer if you want. I got 99 Slayer after RC.

Here's what I'd recommend though - do it inefficiently and sprinkle it in with other skills if you enjoy it. Slayer is, in my opinion, by far the most fun thing to do on any version of Runescape. Slayer has always been my go to from when I started the game to this very day. I actually kind of regret getting 99 Slayer on my main account because it's so fun that maybe I should have saved it as one of the later 99's. It also got me 99 attack, 99 def, 99 strength, 99 HP, and 94 Ranged so ONLY do combat with Slayer in my opinion unless you're bossing ( Ranged from just cannon too lmao).

I enjoyed the 99 Slayer grind so much I considered making another account to do it all over again. I imagine in 2017 it's even MORE fun with new bosses, new areas, and improved loot tables. This thread makes me want to go Slay again.

 

Yeah, that’s where I’m at a loss at the moment. I’m not necessarily in a “rush” to get 99 slayer & although I will still cannon a lot of tasks, I’m more focused on enjoying that portion of the skill and leveling up all my other Cb stats as I go.
I’m not setting out to make 99 slayer my ultimate goal the the moment, I see slayer for me, as more of a casual “as I go” skill.
I still plan on getting the 99, but I WANT to enjoy the content instead of grinding it out like I would with a buyable 99 like Prayer or herby. Etc etc.

 

Based on your replies it seems like you want to reach 99 within a reasonable amount of time which essentially means you won't be going the efficient route. AE basically stated in his video the reason behind efficiency because you can make plenty of gp doing other things with the time you'd save vice doing it the profitable way. Then again AE has a bank worth bills so the last thing he's concerned about (I'm sure of) is doing things for profit.

Besides cannoning tasks I'd recommend you do DK's whenever you get the task and do the boss monsters. I'd bring the least required amount of pots, etc... I don't think I made much sense there but usually people stack prayer pots with super combat pots, etc to finish their tasks faster. Just listing ways you can save money and profit from slayer without going the completely slow and profitable route.

Yeah, I feel like I am closer to a regular player than I am a super beast macro efficient player.
Because although he makes a good point, like dedicating the additional 300 hours you’d save from doing slayer the efficient route, into Zulrah, & make more money. But in reality, I highly doubt I would ever dedicate a straight 300 hours into Zulrah imo.
At least not currently where I am in my RS career, I don’t have a huge desire to get the serpent pet, so ya.

 

Enjoy it. Don't blitz through any of the content. Slayer is the king skill for many.

Runescape is so much fucking better when you don't blitz through content and march to the beat of your own drum. I say fuck efficiency. Efficiency adds a pressure to the game that isn't healthy nor is it even fun for most people. Runescape is all about the journey, not the destination. The obsession with efficiency is what ruined so much of the game IMO.

I'm not saying Slay with like a fucking iron sword but I can't stand when I hear people saying "oh man with this you'd get 5k more xp an hour" like who cares lmao. It's not like we're playing for ranks. We're playing for fun.

I will never play efficiency scape. I runecraft in the goddamn halloween event outfit from 2016 instead of graceful lmao. I did 99 Slayer without Barrows gloves. I DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER DOING DRAGON SLAYER. 99 Slayer no Dragon Slayer done, that has to be an achievement.

But you're spot on, I genuinely just enjoy playing the game.
Going to 99's, yes, but at a gradual pace.
Fun > Efficiency.
If I maxed my acc, 99 in everything, I dont know what I would do after that.
So for now, I'm just enjoying the ride lol.

 

I've done literally like 7 quests on that account. Maybe less. I just wanted to jump into Slayer immediately after 99 RC and I skipped so many things. I can't count how many times I get called a bot by salty little kids because all my other stats are still low from not training much. I'll get around to doing the quests eventually I think.

The thing is I regret blitzing through 99 Slayer because no other skill really recaptures that fun for me besides RC but that's done too.

So while I'd like to max like yourself, I can't really find the motivation cuz all the skills left just aren't all that fun.

 

The META now is barraging tasks which break even in Catacombs, mix in some Cerb, Kraken tasks etc I reckon you would profit quite easily

 

Shoot. I’m not a big quester either, but I’m learning to enjoy the process.

Yeah, I’m approaching slayer as kind of an in game 99 - something I pursue slowly and make huge gains off of.
