There are a few scammers going around sporting quite a clever impersonation technique. What they do is they add the person they're impersonating on msn, act as if they're trying to do a trade with him, and then ask for a PM. But here's where it gets interesting. Instead of asking for a PM to their sythe account, they get you to send the PM to the guy they're trying to scam's account, acting as if they are in fact that person and want verification. The victim then thinks that he's dealing with the real guy (as he got a PM from him) and completes the trade (and gets scammed). Two people I know already fell victim to these assholes. Be cautious, and as a way to combat this, also always remember to include what msn you're talking on in the PM (I know most do but sometimes we make mistakes).

Thank you, someone tried to scam me this way but got the jackass banned.

Should help a good bit of people, if they take time to read this.

It is also sad for the trusted member who falls into this, note:

Always send your Msn in the Pm, and what you're discussing on msn.

Yeah. I think everyone should read this so they don't get played by it.

This is already a known scam on Sythe (apparently not well-known enough), but thanks for informing people.

Good Post! Yes, I've found myself almost falling for the same technique. Members need to take their time and workout most of the trade in PMs. I like to exchange more than a few. Take your time!

This should be stickied around the RS Blackmarket. Nice find bro. Like Piez said, always ask for them to pm their msn and to copy and paste some of the convo.

Will Sticky for a few days to catch everyone's attention unless a more senior mod determines this was not the right thing to do.

I usually give them several keywords to type such as:
"I am [email protected] and you are [email protected]".
Then I'd give them some randomly generated piece of code to type. After that, I'd ask them to include part of our convo. Only then do I go ahead with trades.

Thanks for letting everyone know, though :p

That's a really good idea, although i myself trusted people over msn if they just sent me a pm. Thanks for the heads up. Scammers are getting more and more sophisticated with the more aware community. Meh.>_<

As necro said, I too have a format for Pming..

When I PM for something such as an MM, I include both emails of the trade, my email, and the type of trade..
