    AVG processes RS Client as Malware.

    Just redownloaded the RS Client in the downloads section of the RS site. After it is finished I right-click on my desktop and select 'open', it attempts to load for 5 seconds til I get the following message of box 2. I click 'show details' and box 3 pops up.

    Yes I did. AVG has a past for recognizing the downloadable client as a virus or malware in the past.

    Lots of players kept on creating threads in the past worrying about it until Andrew made a post explaining the issue in further detail.

    I'm sure it's not a virus. Disabling the "Resident Shield" component in AVG should allow you to use the client, if you can't already.

    Or just play in the browser if it bugs you.

    Its safe mate!
    I've had the same thing with AVG. For some reason it just blocks the program out / alerts it as unsafe.
    But no worries, its all safe :) I guess its something that looks fishy too AVG but isn't for real.

    I'm so tempted to troll this thread but will refrain. But logically speaking do you really think that a site such with a player base in the 100s of millions would host malware. It's probably because the downloadable client comes with a portable opensource version of Java and maybe if you AVG on the paranoid setting it may decide to warn you.

    Trolling = Infractions.

    On topic, AVG has gone haywire over Google Earth installer files as well. You can just add it to the 'safe files' list and you are good to go. Or just get Kaspersky.

    read the terms of use / service and see if they say anything about checking for possible cheating software or 3:rd party softwares.

    Pretty much this. AVG is not worth it, they identify too many good programs as a virus and not enough bad ones. Anyway, like Clashfan said, the problem is probably because the Runescape client changes files directly in the C: drive and windows folders, which is usually a pretty virus-like move.
