I wouldn't want to drive an automatic just because you never know when you'll have to drive a manual for whatever reason. Getting in the routine of being lazy then having to drive a manual I'd assume would be annoying. For example, most courtesy cars are manual.

This isn't true in the US. Very, very, very few cars are manual. I know the UK loves their manuals though.

I currently drive a standard but I do miss my automatic truck. I mean they both have their ups and downs. When I'm going to work in the morning half of the time I wish I didn't have to shift just so I can be lazy. :p

I drive a mustang gt, its manual. A more interactive driving experience imo.

Don't have a problem with automatic cars though, especially in traffic. Just weird switching between the two, find myself stomping on the invisible clutch when driving automatic.

I live in the US by the way.

Manual. Saves on gas, and makes passing on the highway wayyy easier.

I used to live in a rural and pretty spread out town, so there wasn't a lot of stop and go and traffic, and you could make it across town without hitting one red light because everything is off the main drag, and the light only turns when someone is trying to enter traffic. Pretty much optimal driving conditions when commuting with a manual

Passing is very true. I can "ask" my automatic to down shift when I want to pass but it takes forever and sometimes its like lol nope.

I'm a manual dude all the way, my last car (Srt4) was stick and that thing rocked! More reliable, simpler to work on and diagnose...however I bought a tj wrangler in automatic because the deal was "just too good". Welp just 2 days ago the tranny went....funny you made this thread actually.

Dont be ignorant. Plenty of americans drive standard, hence standard. Granted it is not as popular as it once was its still pretty common.

I prefer standard most the time but my current truck is auto, bought it used at a good price so wasnt too picky. Automatic is a godsend in traffic though, I commute a lot and get stuck in traffic near daily. Standards a PITA in stop and go traffic.

But while we are asking culturaly ignorant questions why do Brits drive those little bitty stupid cars???

    ^^^This

That is the one thing I really do hate about driving manual though. When some fucker stops in the middle of the street and you have to shift all the way back down to first gear. Or when you're on a steep hill at a light and the guy behind you inches up to you within like three feet.

Otherwise its a lot more enjoyable to me.

Stop and go traffic is definitely no fun. For that matters any sort of town/city driving really gets old after a while in a stick.
