Auto Bumping

Not trying to kick a dead horse but isn’t this a perfect example of how the 1000 post count minimum for staff applications is broken? I am 100% behind this ever since forever post count has been a measure of trust on not only this marketplace but all others for a new user they would give preference to someone with 3k posts vs 300 even though they don’t know they are from bumping threads.

 

Auto bumping ruined this site. Let’s remove this shit-stain feature that allows people to not physically interact with the website for weeks at a time. Stacking up ridiculous amounts of post count by doing absolutely nothing. How in the world do we think that is acceptable? Wake up!

 

Agreed this website is boring, I stopped coming on so much already It just seems like the CDT team are the only active members, Everyone doing services just auto bumps and have no need to even login.

good reason why auto bumping should be gone. guy has a outstanding report on him and completely ignoring fixing his bullshit.

 

Ridiculous idea make auto bumping a min donation amount perk or some how reel it in the sythe brand name that brings people to the marketplace knowing there are scammers is diminishing and detracting new users. Stop forgiving scammers to keep the forums active what I would do respectfully is leverage the existing database not sure if Richard still has the rule where you cannot delete accounts but if so well done start mining and get this forums long overdue second wind.

 

Support, don't advertise being available 24/7 or bump at certain periods of time when you know you arent available if you haven't hired or have someone in your server or on your website to cover the timezone / period you aren't available to cover.

 

I agree with this sentiment. A lot of these discords don't even have workers online 24/7 like they promote. They should at least post their preferred hours or expected wait times.
Also, MOST of these Discords won't even give you a quote or price until you open a ticket and wait.

For someone whos manually posted 36k+ times I regret not farming the sections I'm in with an auto bumper back when I was around for business.

However I do know one of the factors that made me step away were the mass amount of auto bumpers running 24/7.

Back when we was able to use autobumpers without the donation rank requirement people did still use them but there was also an much bigger community driven part too. I think the problem is we face now days everyone thinks that you have to be this big bad donator rank and HAVE to use an auto bumper to fit in (literally)

It seems people have forgot what a donation is, and whilst I understand there is an incentive and all, I mean look at me I have a $200 rank, and have considered many times about the $300 one too. For me at least, if I donate something and get something cosmetic out of it then it's a win win, if i'm doing it for the sole purpose to essentially as @Pikachu said avoid anything other than selected parts of the forums then that's just bad for the forums health as a whole




Ask the countless people like @Sjors or @tigeris (sorry for tagging you as examples lads) if they get business WITHOUT AN AUTO BUMPER you will find they do...

People have just got sloppy, and people have forgot to not bite the hand that feeds them essentially via killing the forums from decisions they make that impact everyone else but themselves. But what are you all going to do when there is no more business because every Tom Dick and Harry has already autobumped 5000000000 times and ignored the tickets that got opened like shown in @Grant thread?

Oh that's right, when you do that you lose business. That business then goes to someone else, that person may not even be an autobumper but a regular user who has plenty of legitimate posts. I understand the whole "bumping your threads" seems like spam to many, as @Yellow_Hat_OSRS_Services pointed out he has done 30K odd posts without one and still continues to occasionally post regardless of an autobumper or not

Again, I understand the incentive but what people need to remember is there is more than just a market, imagine if one of you was going through a hard time (like we see Personal Support sometimes) and there was no one to talk to in your private life, and Sythe was the only place you can turn to but no one replies because everyone is a literal robot?

Why would you want to stick around... What so you can see the hundreds of people who autobump because they decided to be one of the many who take advantage of a incentive which you shouldn't be encouraging yourself to take a part in.. You should be donating because you actually want to or because you can and you don't mind losing out on that money, like you wouldn't with any other charity such as cancer research and so forth.

 

Overall I think the main deterrent for most is this following statement.


Lets say you aren't doing this as a full time job, you aren't aiming to be the "main seller", you aren't running employees in the Discord / group chats etc.

If I log in to bump 2x a day or so during my "online period" that I'll be at the laptop/computer and that's all the time I plan to spend here it's almost not worth even bumping or attempting to sell do to the fact that 100 people are going to over bump my threads do to the auto bumping feature.

I understand its "legal" to do so in terms of rules but if it was allowed why not just make it a perk so that everyone whos a donor over $500 can have their threads bumped ass an addon of some sort.

The current situation deters the casual seller/provider who wants to do this as a side thing or even a one off.

Imagine being someone who will only log in here once to sell 1 account and never come back or they just want to offer services over a holiday period. The current system has become a cancer that eats away at all the "fresh blood" or those who aren't doing this on mass scale.

It would probably be best to have a "bumped section" and another section that is without auto bumping entirely. Almost a clone of the original vs not.

However that all being said, OSRS is dying either way and has been, please don't share the player count being up massively because 60-70% of online accounts are bots.

Even now I can still sell accounts randomly even after being away for 2 years but I def dont take it serious knowing unless I bump every 4 hours on the hour on all of my threads + hire a discord mod/manager I'll be in the top 3 sellers again.

Either way its good to see that there are "top sellers now" and a handful of them because it seems there are actually less "exit scams" than before, so maybe the way its been monopolized isn't such a bad thing because the top people seem not to be exit scamming like a ton of the older boys used to do.

Its apart of the evolution of business as well because I'm 100% sure even without auto bumping you can easily hire an employee or 2 to set timers on their computers to remind them to bump all the threads from external links without requiring them access to your account.

I think this method of bumping/grinding is here to stay and probably would be pointless to remove auto bumping entirely unless the staff #1 focuses on actually enforcing the online offline policy / dont bump unless you are ready to trade.

The thing is the site used to be alot more community friendly almost making it so people had to have some sort of community interaction to stay relevant or become known to drive more buissness to themselves making the website have a pretty decent community for what it was. Personally I found that as soon as the discord got banned and the community and sale server were split and people basically could only join the sales server and have 0 interaction with the community outside of "B/S 07" and bumping threads alot of the human interaction was cut out of the website and discord.

Basically how it relates to this too is, people can run bots to essentially never login to the website outside of their bumper bot and at that point anyone who even attempts to communicate on sythe or use this website will end up logging in opening the sales links and joining a discord server and never interacting with the website again, and I don't see how that is healthy at all for the website.

Change is looked at in a "if it aint broke don't fix it" mentality and while that may have worked in the past I think allowing all forced human interaction to be removed from the website will continue to result in negative longevity of the site.

 

Literally what I was saying in a nutshell lol, it's not healthy and will just remove the aspect of communicating with others

 

I know I'm beating a dead horse at this point and I think shortly after the discord servers split I tried to make a suggestion to combine them again as forcing people to be apart of the community is GOOD for the website and since then I've just had no interest in continuing to interact as most of the fun/interesting people had no more motivation to interact with the community and there is actually 0 channels in the trading server to even communicate with anyone outside of help. (Side note, the trading server has been ban free for almost 3 years now and with the current rules in place there is no reason the discords shouldn't be combined)

If anyone cares about the site they will remove auto bumping and try to bring back the humanity to sythe. (Another side note, having 95% of all threads have 0 pricing on their pages or being unable to know prices without "JOINING THEIR DISCORD OPEN 24/7 JUST OPEN A TICKET" makes it so people never have a reason to come back to the website because they had to join 8 different servers to get price quotes and now they have no reason to ever open the website again.)

 

Yeee I might of started that trend back in the day with the "Starting at $199" < Example. every post was "Here's the starting price come get the official quote" hehe
