Man.. You're still not counting and it comes out as garbage. You're anticipating the beat instead of playing the beat

    Seriously, buy a metronome

If you're referring to my cover of the day of justice I did that on purpose because I didn't bother to check my sound before I recorded to make sure my guitar overpowered the song so I played a little before so it would be proof I am playing because w\o a visual you can't tell sometimes.

anyways added your duke nukem theme song cover megamatt and sorry for the bad recording lol I wanted to get it finished before I went to bed I may redo it and delete it later.

Remember I am taking requests all.

    Duke Nukem was especially bad

Do you understand what counting means when someone says it? I'm not being negative, I just really want to know

As a musician, it's something you definitely need to fix because the music just becomes unlistenable

Please don't comment on music or quality if you don't know what it is.

We're trying to help him get better as a musician

I asked for this section so we could turn this section into something useful and actually help people learn

    Thanks,
    Ethan

I still gotta cover wish you were here by pink floyd then I can do that. trying to keep everyone in order.

I will agree that the Duke Nukem cover was poorly done and I am planning on re-doing it most likely.

An as for the counting topic I have only done 2 songs [4 if you count my bass covers] that have the song in the background and all of them are right on except for on I believe the Incubus cover where I was messing around. but that was in the middle of the song. Other than that I haven't done any other covers w\ the backing and or song in the back ground so how the hell do I still not count right if I haven't done it in the past? My question to you is honestly do you know what it means? Because all my songs have been right on. I would suggest you go listen to the day of justice the Duke Nukem theme etc. and listen to how they go. No offense but I think you're taking a term you learned and just throwing it at everybody lol every post I see you post on is the same thing. Keep in mind I am in no way trying to start a flame war I am just asking a question and giving you some advice.

    Umm.. get better speakers?

False. I've been a musician for at least 8 years and a listener all my life. I listened to all of your material and you're actually racing the rhythm instead of actually playing the song. You're just focusing on the notes and even then you mess up your technique the entire time

Before you publish a piece of music, make sure it's good

I'm not just throwing out terms, especially when "counting" has to be the most common term out there

I'm not saying "you're not arpegiating correctly" or any of that

I'm also using Bose speakers so it's not me, it's you

Maybe you're rhythm deaf instead of tone deaf?

Usually people deny they're tone deaf and that's the first sign of it

Dude 98% of the material I have posted on this site I can't "race" the song because it was either my own work or I was doing it without a backing track. I have been playing for 12 years and also a listener all my life the only one that was done poorly was the Duke Nukem cover and one small part of one of the bass covers when a friend distracted me and I goofed. Also the speaker part was to the other kid not you.

Your posting irritates me, the level of arrogance you portray is disgusting. He obviously does have a problem with rythym even I picked that up but to say he is rythym deaf or tone deaf is completely unnecessary. Out of interest though do you take guitar lessons Deadzone? It kind of seems like you have "self-taught habits"

My aunt taught me the basic chords back when I was a kid but other than that yes I am self taught. I am still failing to see how my rhythm is off though would you please elaborate for me? not counting the Duke Nukem cover.

Sure I can, what you are doing is what a lot of self taught guitarists do - they race the music and anticipate the beat too much. When you are taught by a decent guitar teacher they will always make you practice a certain way right from the beginning which involves using a metronome and playing whole notes on every beat before moving on to playing 8th, 16th etc etc. Here I will use tab for an example A minor exercise using just the E and A strings, the numbers above indicate the beat.

    Code:
    -1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4

    -------5-----5-7-
    -5-7-8---7-8-----

So what you are doing is playing whole notes and aiming to play on the beat. Playing like this first until you have perfect precision constantly hitting right on the beat changes the way you hear the beat and how you play with it. I was self taught for a long time and I too had the same issues, it wasn't till I started taking jazz/classical guitar lessons that i realized this. Hope this helped.
