    //Assignment\\ Make your own Go-Cart!

Hey everyone, the User Education has been lacking some fun, so The Dark has done a little 'fun thing' for us to think of a guide that would teach him something. So here it is! Today, we're going to learn how to design and build your very own Go-Cart. As difficult as it sounds, a Go-Cart is somewhat easy to build on your own. I'm going to provide step-by-step procedures on how to successfully build a Go-Cart so let's get started.

Why I chose to make this guide -
Over the weekend, my dad and I built a Go-Cart because he thought it would be a good 'father-son' activity. And since The Dark wanted to learn something... I was hoping he wouldn't know how to make one! ^_^

    Requirements -
    - Money, for parts.
    - Tools, to put stuff together.
    and...
    - Skills, such as welding, measurements, etc. If not, find someone who is good at this to help you.

To start off, we're going to want to build or buy a frame.

If you want to take the easy way, go ahead and buy one. A good site to purchase a frame at is...
    HERE.

Or we can build our own!
To begin, we're going to need to make several different pieces in order to make the full body.

    Those will be...
    - The Arms.
    - The Main Frame.
    - The Axles.
    - The Steering.

Note - My dad helped me a little with this part.

    Step one - The arms.
    - Measure the steel materials to make sure that the specified length is correct. Never use welded pieces for the main supporting parts.

    - Find a pattern, a template, or a guide to make sure that the shape of the A-Arm is accurate and equal all over.

    - Weld all joints and pieces well together. Use steel clips to keep these pieces from moving while welding.
(Remember, when welding, wear your mask! OR if you aren't comfortable doing so, ask your dad or someone to help you.)

    Step Two - The frame.
    - Lay down the pipe steel on a clean part of your concrete floor.

    - The body and roofing frame need bending to create round edges. Try using a pattern, to be sure that all curves are equally measured.

    - Arrange the seats on their designated places to see how big the body size of your Go-Cart frame.

    - Once again, using steel clips... Weld the steel pipes together after doing the following.

Here, is an example on what your frame should look like.

Step 3 - The Axles and steering.
    Axles
    - Find a lawnmower differential with 13-tooth sprocket and 9-tooth axle.

    - Link them by a type 50 chain, so the speed will get higher than how fast it was going on the lawnmower you found it on.

    - Install a chain guard so you can keep the chain from falling off while go-kart is running and safe from hazards.

Your Axle should look somewhat like this.

    Steering
    - Find a steering system from a junk-yard that will fit the size of your frame.

    - Secure the steering part on the frame with use of steel clips, now weld the steering system to the frame.

    - Drill, and insert Nuts / Bolts for safety in case the weld breaks.

Here's a picture of the Steering system my dad and I used.

Congratulations! You've just built the frame of your soon to be, Go-Cart!

The Next step will be finding a engine.

    Engines I suggest -
    - Lawnmower Engine
    [IMG]
    - Motorcycle Engine
    [IMG]
    - Or just a normal Go-Cart Engine
    [IMG]

Now, we're going to need some wheels.

I just suggest going to your local junk yard and finding some.

Finally!, the assembly of the Go-Cart.

Since we have our frame all built, now we just need to put it together... So here's the process my dad and I did.

    Step 1 -
Put the Frame of your Go-Cart on support bars about 2 feet off the ground

    Step 2 -

Place the wheels you got on the axles.
    - Nut and bolt the wheels on tight.

    Step 3 -

Place the Go-Cart on the floor again and bolt down your engine, and setup the pedals to connect with the engine.

    Step 4 -
Bolt on your seat(s) and steering-wheel then sit in to test for comfort.

    Step 5 - Optional.
Add a frame for safety and or if you're going outdoors with this Go-Cart.

You just made a Go-Cart! Congratulations.

No, that's not mine. But mine has pretty much the same look, except it's red / black.

You could re-model the frame to be able to support the motors weight. Bit out of my skill though, lol.

love it lol alright u need to wear a #10 welding helmet. the looks is different from the mask. the mask is more used for brazing and not welding. considering its only #8 the Arc from the welding will be a little to bright with the mask, if your using MIG (Metallic inert gas) or TIG ( Tungsten inert gas) you need a #15 helmet cause the arc is alot brighter.

maybe ill do a UE on welding/soldering/brazing?

    Aha, and very nice Guide.

Well, it shouldn't surprise me, as it was created by Rawr Im Phat.

Anyways, I like the way the Guide was organized, and overall concept as well.

It's next to impossible to build your own go-kart... All angles need to be perfert, welds need to be perfect, motor mounds need to be located properly. This isn't something a guide can show you how to... you need 2 years in engineering school and mechanics skill. Don't even joke about making this.

Even though i have been welding for several years now, all the welds are, is Fillit welds, very simple to do. He is not saying to build your own engine. he is showing how to build the go-cart with the engine ready to be hooked up.
    so no its NOT impossible.
