My acc got a temp ban for buying gold on osrs, the ban said it was moderate. This acc previously also got a temp but for buying gold on rs3 a couple years ago, on that one it said it was minor. I am done buying gold on this acc now as I don't want to risk a perm ban, but something that made me curious about this is that when I am on the account history page theres currently 2 boxes for this offence. The top orange one states the remaining time left on the ban but the second box says that "If you commit this offence again you will receive an extra 6 days". That makes me wonder if RWT again would receive a perma or not. Anyone been through a similar situation?

If you’ve had an official offense against your account such as a ban, the general consensus is not to RWT on that account again. If you must RWT, then creat a new account and use a separate Jagex launcher, then RWT on that account buying items instead of gold, let the item sit for a month or so, then transfer it to your main. This method avoids 90% of the risk to your main account. Although Jagex is typically fairly mild toward buyers, they have increased their aggression toward buyers in recent years. The thing to keep in mind is that they typically don’t “find” buyers. Jagex simply finds the seller because the seller is being utterly egregious and flagrant with their selling, then they warn/ban the accounts that have traded with the seller most recently. Typically, the sooner they ban the seller, the more likely the buyer will suffer a temp ban. If they ban the seller weeks/months after you traded with them, Jagex will likely just send an auto-generated warning message to you. How long was it after you RWT that you received the ban?

The acc got banned in less than a week. I might consider purchasing items on an alt like you suggested. Are there trade restrictions for new lvl 3 alt? Say I want to buy a scythe/tbow/shadow and sit on it on for a bit, do I need a certain total level/playtime/quest points?

Yes. You can easily find all of the restrictions/limitations with a quick google search, but essentially you just need to be logged in for a total of 20 in-game hours, reach a total level of 100, and 10 quest points before you are allowed to trade freely. So just create the new account and play around on it for a little while.

I would also recommend buying those items separately and not together. That large of a purchase all at once will flag in the system. I’d make those purchases over the course of a few months to avoid wasting your irl money if the account ends up getting banned. Also, avoid buying from the shady selling sites. I’d recommend this site or player auctions due to their greater security.

In my experience I’ve never had bans for buying, only selling gold, I’d say you’d be safe just trade high levels

I do agree that trading high combat levels does dramatically reduce the risk of a ban from buying, but 99% of the gold selling websites are going to trade you on a low combat level account. Actually finding a seller who trades on a high combat level account is rare. For this reason, one of the recommendations I stated was for the OP to buy from this site rather than from the sketchy sites out there that advertise extremely cheap gold.

Although you may not have been banned for buying, the fact remains that people do get banned for it. Several people on this forum in different threads have stated they received temp bans for buying.

as a side note I’d suggest that you confirm with sellers that they are trading from high levelled accounts to begin with before sending payment that should save some heartache at least

Gold sellers also have a vested interest in making sure the accounts they keep gold on don’t get banned or flagged for rwt so chances are if u just ask for high live levelled accs you’d probably be safer overall (high quality gold + traded from high lvl accs + no chain banning)

I think i am going to consider buying on an alt then waiting to transfer over a megarare to main. How long do you think I should let the item sit on my alt before transferring?

Interesting. I never got banned and I bought & sold alot of gold. If you really want to be sure, as others have suggested make an alt and let the gold stay there for some time (few weeks?) and than trade.

To be as safe as possible, it would be best to leave it there for at least 4 weeks, then transfer your main. To be fair, if you trade with a high combat level seller originally, then it is unlikely you will get any type of ban, but in my opinion, it is better to be safe than sorry.

I, too, have never been banned (yet) for gold buying. I have received that autogenerated warning message from Jagex, though.
Needless to say, if you read through other threads on this forum, several people have stated that they were banned for buying gold on several occasions. It is typically a temp ban of just a few days, but nonetheless, it is a ban. Therefore, I have become more cautious in our current landscape due to the fact that people have been banned for only buying and not selling.
