[APPROVED] New Category: Cryptocurrency

I've been thinking of adding "Cryptocurrency" as its own category. When I originally proposed the idea to @Sythe, he felt the discussion forum was not active enough or that our user base wasn't very crypto-oriented. I thought this might be the case because there's not enough exposure to the forum, as it's tucked into the Off-Topic category and somewhere you wouldn't expect users to go to if scrolling through the site. It's been one of the most active channels on Discord everyday for a while now, so I think it would be worthwhile to try it out at least. Since initially pitching the idea to Richard, he said it had grown on him and asked me to gather opinions/feedback from the community.

The most important thing to consider, of course, is the layout for the category. This would most likely be placed under Other Game Markets. I'm not sure what the best structure would be, but I came up with an example to kick things off as shown below. I don't know if the community would want different forums for different currencies either (and how that might be organized). Also, please keep in mind that icons would need created and included for each node.

Since this would be a new category, staff would be expected to moderate the section as well. As such, there would be a need for a Cryptocurrency Sectional Moderator. Applications would be accepted for the new category immediately if it's added, but we will need a fun rank for the new usergroup. I've come up with a few sample ranks below, but I welcome submissions from the community too. The title must be "Cryptocurrency Mod" and the left/right-most images must be Santa hats.



I'd recommend using vectors for the middle image if you can find them and I've recreated the Santa hat as I couldn't find an image anywhere. https://i.imgur.com/y1U9wVj.png

I'll leave you with a few questions you might ask yourself.

• Should this category be added? - Please vote in the poll.
• How should it be structured (including descriptions and sub-forums [if needed])?
• Which icons should be used for each node?
• Do you have any ideas for the new usergroup?

I like this ripple one the most imo, but I think the btc one would be better, just because btc is the og and it's the main crypto I guess. But I support this 100%, I think it'd be good.

Definitely support this. Even those, like myself, who originally came to Sythe for game markets etc. have drifted naturally into an interest in crypto, due to adopting them as payment methods for gold/services and such. It'll be a clear and dedicated area for us, as well as new users and more experienced people within the crypto space, to help each other learn and spread new information. A specific section would help regiment and flesh out the current discussion thread which is just a massive mix of everything thrown into one place. I'm fine with the suggested layout and believe the Bitcoin icon would be most suited as it is what the majority of people would associate with crypto. Looking forward to (hopefully) seeing this come to life!

but yeah maybe if its in the open it will get more traffic. this seems similar to my giveaway section/sub-section suggestion instead of it being clouded in the sandbox

@Shin I like the gambling idea especially. I think that area would be the biggest attraction to potential new users. Maybe we should make a dedicated crypto gambling platform for people?

 

I've deleted my above feedback because I was tired and misunderstood what is being suggested here - I thought u were suggesting a new forum with sub-forums but ur proposing an entire new category.

Staff can see my above feedback as most of its still relevant.

However if we are going for a full out CATERGORY I'd like to discuss what exactly is going to be moved /merged into it.

I think currency exchanges & cryptocurrency together could be really active.

The others suggested in OP will be dead, both shin and sythe are technical guys and they keep trying to add technical discussion to the forum and its all dead as shit, just keep it condensed!

Will make a nice vague marketplace for gift cards, cryptocurrencys, currency exchange, paypal for skrill, etc.

People can get a 1 stop shop @Sythe where they can come and discuss their investments, trade their investments & learn more about cryptocurrencys.

The combo is fierce and I can see it being highly active.

Also for the love of god remove the security center and the site archives from displaying to guests/members why is there an extra 2 category's and 4 boards that have ZERO use?

While ur at it can we please discuss why there is not a simple "Offtopic" catergory with a "Offtopic & General" forum with all the offtopic shit as sub-forums? Why do we need 6-8 forums for Something for all, media, health and fitness, I mean is sythe a fucking gym? Some of this shit is a headscratcher.

Update this ancient ass forum to stuff that will be active and toss the rest, condense and repeat.

General skim read, i like the idea... but prefer the discord channel and also prefer mainly crypto related discords.


You may attract a lot of nonse, but it can definitely bring members to the forum....

Few points, people create whole forums for crypto, merging the two may become a lot. Just please get mods that actually know what crypto is about. c&p guides suck.... make good relateable ones.
If you think you have a small team of people that are able to cater to the knowledge of crypto and to having a crypto community in this forum go for it. If you don't have that you need to start small and then expand, rather than chucking a full blown expansion in the works. i.e

Basic, once it picks up and once you have stickies rules formed moderators guides helpers and a growing community then you should add more in.
Been in Scottys SpaceStation discord, seen it expand to 8000+ users dont over work it, its not ever necessary.

 

I hate the fact that there are currently two 'crypto' subforums in other regions on the forum (Digital Currency and Non-Game Sales + Cryptocurrency, Finance & Gambling Discussion (+ the upcoming split of Cryptocurrency)). Voted yes but please put them all together somewhere.

 

We don't need a cryptocurrency mod lol it's gd. The section's neat, but it won't get enough traffic to justify anything other than a 1-of.

 

Disagree... If we're going to do a section for market bubbles, why not make one for Tulips while we're at it?

Maybe you're ok with tricking kids into thinking crypto"currency" is a good thing to invest in but I don't think Sythe should be...

 

Support, i don't think we need sectionals there just let globals do the work

 

If there's hype around it, create a section for it until it no longer has a following and then delete it. Applies to everything imo. Probably the best model to keep up traffic.

 

I know people who have made a lot. Why do you say it’s not good to invest/flip?
