    Inception's ending - Opinion? [SPOILERS]

The movie ends off with with Cobb's totem (the top) spinning. But they never show if it falls or stays up. It does wobble though, making me think it will fall, because if he was dreaming I'd assume it would spin unceasingly. Also, I think the ending served a greater purpose than the obvious. It showed how Cobb developed from always obsessing about what state of consciousness he was in to just caring that he was finally back with his family (he walked away from the top before it toppled/kept spinning forever). So, do you think the top fell or is he still dreaming, any other thoughts?

Should let people know there is a spoiler before they read in case they haven't seen it, but I liked the ending and I believe he is not dreaming and is in real life.

In his dreams he could never see his kids faces because he doesn't know what the look like. In the end of the movie, he sees their faces. He's not dreaming.

In his dreams the spinning top never wavered, yet it grew shaky at the very end of the film - he was awake.

Lol, completely forgot about adding a spoilers tag, anyone see this by accident? Oops.

He did see his kids, before he had to leave. And this reminds me of another piece of evidence that he may still be asleep: whenever he remembered/thought about his kids, they were the same age and wearing the same clothes as when he saw them when he was supposedly awake.

Well, its a hollywood movie and they love their romantic happy endings. If thats what the message was supposed to be I think they would have gone all out and made the top fall. Having it not fall just makes the movie goers wonder which would point me more towards he was still dreaming.

Here is an article that brings that subject up among a lot of other things in Inception:

    http://xenlogic.wordpress.com/2010/08/08/inception-explained/

A really good read if you have seen the movie and want to go more in depth. A lot of SPOILERS in the article of course.

But I personally think that the movie's ending is up to the viewer themselves, and that's how Christopher Nolan, the director, wanted it to be. That it's not decided whether it was all a dream or not, just to make us think a little bit more about the different options.

He is most likely awake but we will never know. Just like in Shutter Island we don't know

First off I loved this movie. I believe he was awake, and I also believe Inception was A LOT like a love story; not purely action. Did anyone else notice the love element of the story? It was like a fierce romance but it doesn't really all hit you until the very end.

He could have if he wanted to, if you remember he had the opportunity to see their faces but turned away and claimed that he wasn't ready.

Their are a couple things that support both arguments, the fact that the kids are wearing the same exact clothes and are in the same exact positions in the end as they were in the dreams is something. But the fact that the totem began to wobble at the end where as in a dream it would maintain a perfect spin. I don't really know to be honest.

    Inception's ending - Opinion? [SPOILERS]

I recently saw this movie (finally!) and loved it. The first time I watched it I was completely lost. Started it over and everything made sense. My theory is that the whole movie was actually a dream. He says everybody has to have their own totem to tell the difference between the dream and reality, but he himself wasn't using his own totem. The spinning top he had was actually Mal's totem. Therefor evenn though it toppled over to show it wasn't a dream it actually was because it wasnt his totem.

I think the point of the uncertainty is that the viewer has been incepted. Christopher Nolan wants the viewer to question whether he is in a dream or not. In doing so, Christopher Nolan is incepting this idea into the readers head: "what is the difference between a dream and real life?" I think his point is that maybe dreams are not different from real life, as we might be in a dream as it is. Just because gravity is in "real life", doesn't mean our world is any more "real".
    Some scary food for thought...
