Evidentally it allows you to set up a "virtual machine" on your "real machine."

My thought was that if you were going to run cheats and not want to risk having keyloggers installed on your "real machine" you could run them off the "virtual machine."

    Thoughts?

you create a "Virtual Machine" it's basically an image file containing a virtual harddrive. You then boot up the Virtual Machine and install windows on it with a CD.

I use Microsoft's virtual machine, it has many uses. You need some extra RAM and hard drive space to throw around though.

As for your question, I've kinda wondered the same thing, I can't answer it right now.

I use VMWare on Linux and Virtual PC on Windows. Virtual PC is a free download from Microsoft so there's no need to worry about cracks/serials.

Actually yes it does :) many people don't cheat because of the risks associated with downloading the cheats themselves. This is a discussion of one possible way to download cheats without risk - I would say it is extremely relevant to RS cheating.

Here is what I think it is all about:

You can install VMWare on your laptop, which lets you create a virtual
machine of anything you want. You install exactly like building a regular computer, but it builds into a file directory. "Bad things" are trapped inside the VM.

If you ZIP the files before going out on the world, you have a clean copy of the virtual machine. You wipe out the old files, restore from the ZIP file, and
    a brand new machine awaits.

You can create as many virtual machines as you have disk space for. It depends on how much disk space your VM and its programs require. The VM can access other drives on your main system, just like it does with a network. Software cannot install itself on the network drives, and if you catch a virus, the scanner on the main laptop will catch it when the virus attempts a network drive infection.

    *

So, in theory .. I read that to mean that I can create a VM, set it up with Windows, install my cheat, and play from the VM. Any "bad stuff" that is confined to the VM stays in the VM.

    Thoughts?
