Western Union Questions

Hmm couldn't find a sticky for WU..

1. When someone sends me a payment through WU I have to go to a vendor and pick it up. Exactly what information do I have to provide to pick up the money (do I need a WU account to do so)?

2. What am I picking up from the vendor.. actual cash or a cheque?

3. If someone tells me they've sent the payment is there some way I can check if they actually did without going to the vendor and wasting my time if they were lying?

4. Is there ANY possible way they can get there money back after I get it from the vendor?

 

1)You don't need a WU account you just need the info from the sender they should give you that info when they send the money(name of sender, MTCN number, Bring some ID)

2)Cash for small amount of money, cheque for high values.

3)You can Check the status of the transfer on the WU site by proving MTCN number and full name of sender.

4)Not possible to charge back or reclaim the send money after you have collected the money from your local vendor.

The transfer is pretty much instant so when the sender says they have sent the money you can check the status to see if they actually did. However the sender may cancel the send before you pick it up but once you have picked it up it is yours

1. As far as I'm aware, you do need to go to the vendor to pick up the money. I usually give them my Drivers License, which has my First Name, Last Name, and obviously my country.

2. You are picking up cash.

3. You can check online: www.westernunion.com - Check a transfer | You need to enter in their first and last name EXACTLY how they sent it. You then need to type in the MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number).

4. Once you have picked up the money from the WU dealer, you CANNOT be scammed. Although, if you check the status of a transfer online, and it say's it's available for pick-up. It can be cancelled. Only deliver the goods once you have picked up the cash IRL.
