Salve! Hello! Scisne Latine? Do you know latin?
Well if you do, then you might as well leave this thread. For the rest of you...I'll teach you something about Latin History, show you some funny phrases, and show you some funny pictures.
Latin History
One of the first languages invented, Latin was coined by the Romans. As the Roman's conquered the world, they brought their language with them and forced others to learn it. Eventually the all the conquered areas (a good portion of Europe, some of Asia, and some of Africa) knew latin.
The Roman Empire started after the reign of Egypt, and became a world power around 44 B.C. The Roman Empire lasted 15 centuries in power! Now, we all know the United States is the power right now, but it has really only been a power for about 50 years. Not even 70 years ago, Britain was the world power!
The Roman Era became the Greco-Roman era when Greek mythology separated and crude Greek was coined. Eventually Ancient Greece came into its own, but, strangely, they were left alone by the Romans.
Since the Greeks were once Roman, many of their gods are exactly the same with different names (Mercury, a roman god, became Hermes and so forth). Like the Egyptians, Romans placed status on the size of a man's nether regions. The god Mercury was a god, with godlike status, and is therefore depicted with a god-like member.
Roman's went on to conquer many other places, and eventually, as the English began to rise, clashed with them. Roman soldiers wore Mohawk style helmets, and used a fighting style similar to the Greeks and Spartans. Their preferred weaponry was a long spear or pike and a sturdy shield, with a short blade at their side for close quarters (a short blade could move faster at close quarters, whereas a long sword is useless). The Romans did not posses the Spartan's fury or the Egyptians faith, but they were still more than formidable warriors on the battlefield, proven by their continuous conquests, and their holding of power for over 15 centuries.
Romans liked to prove themselves not just by the size of their rods, but also much so through combat (much like the Spartans). The Roman Colosseum is the famous Gladiator's Arena, used for public display's of combat. Gladiators would face each other in single combat to the death, and sometimes the Gladiator's would face powerful animals (lions were common, also bears and bulls). The arena was also used for public executions, a form of entertainment of the time. Unarmed men would be thrust into the arena that was fulled with lions or a gladiator. If the unarmed, often naked, man could defeat his foes he would survive and be cleared of all charges, and he would be given praises for his "devotion", "bravery", and he would also gain much honor. Very rarely did this happen though.
Before the Roman's became a dynasty, they were still very powerful. In 100 B.C Julius Caesar was born. He became a high-ranking military commander, and during a war, was promoted to lead. He was given special power, a man above the law, above scrutiny. When the enemy was vanquished, he refused to relinquish his power, and became the dictator of the Roman Empire.
Ironically, he lead the Roman Empire to great victory and eventually became semi-liked, and even on his death bed he pardoned his enemies. Caesar was not a loving leader during his early years, but without him the Roman Empire would not have existed. The year Caesar died, 44 B.C was the year Rome became a dynasty.

Speaking Latin
If you want to speak latin without being laughed at, you will need:
1x Fake Beard
1x Big Dark Blid-Man's Sunglasses
1x Hoarse Voice [either yours or using a voice-changer thing]
1x Large Weathered Book [Carry it so you look knowleadgable]
1x Cane
2x Fake Busy Eyebrows [preferably grey]
1x Old Man's Clothes [Suit Recommended]
1x Cool Tie
1x Bowler Hat
1x Pair of Shiny, polishable dress shoes.
1x 500g bag of pidgeon feed
1x Makeup for Wrinkles
Now, head to the park. Move slowly, with a limp in your right leg. Make sure you are leaning on your cane. Every so often stop and use your other hand to touch your back [which is aching]. Find yourself a bench, moving slowly as you do, and preferably wheezing. Sit on the bench, but do it stiffly, with much wheezing and grunting. Now stretch your bad leg out and pull out the pigeon feed. Start feeding the birds. If anyone walks by you, tip you bowler hat at, them or give them a knowing nod. If anyone approaches you, nod at them and offer up some latin quotes (even if you are stringing together the msot random phrases they won't understand you). Open the book, point to a page, and repeat yourself louder. Point again and repeat yourself, with some urgency. Keep doing this until they back away, horrified, or run screaming. Congratulations, you speak latin like a Grizzled Ancient! Gandalf would be proud! (Not sure why, but he's a wizard so he probably speaks latin too)
Thanks for reading mates! Goodluck on speaking latin
