The counterargument is that drugs themselves are restrictive of freedom...
Not marijuana, but highly addictive drugs can actually control one's brain enough to restrict one's pursuit of happiness and freedom.

Oftentimes, it's not even about constitutional rights, purely overall productivity. If it's about productivity purposes only, I'd be moreso in support of drugs. But as a culmination of the two reasons above, I'd be stuck in the middle.

Then must every activity or substance that could be potentially addictive be outlawed? Must Gambling, all forms of gaming, and working be outlawed? Overworking can happen you know.

It is no one's job to make sure I'm able to pursue freedom and happiness. The only thing they can do to, and should do, is to make sure they don't impede on my rights.

Drugs aren't restrictive to freedom if you don't take them, it's the act of taking those drugs that causes those effects, so in effect you are restricting your own freedom by doing so. The only viable solution is to educate people about the dangers of these drugs, and if they still do them then it's they're fault.

And what does productivity have to do with anything?

Some drugs, when taken by one person, can cause that person to do crazy things and harm other people. And if they get addicted, they may do harmful things to obtain these drugs. Drugs can also affect people's work habits and thus hurt their workplace which also interferes with other peoples' freedom. There are many ways one person taking drugs can harm other people.

So how is it the drug's fault. The drug didn't choose to be taken by someone, someone chose to take the drug.

Well, if the drug was illegal, they couldn't take it in the first place..

LMFAO. Kid, do you know nothing of the illegal drug trade? Nearly 800,000 people were arrested for marijuana in the 2006-2007 year, so imagine how many people actually smoke it? It doesn't matter if the drug is illegal, if you want it, you can get it.

I was expecting that you say something along those lines but really, the most they can do is make it illegal. If everybody is breaking the law, it doesn't mean the law is wrong.

How about I make a law that says eating fast food is illegal because fast food is bad for you, and I imprison everyone who steps inside of a McDonald's. Eating fast food is bad for you and the law is right, but would you agree with that?

Alcohol causes more violence than any drug, yet it is fully legal for everyone over 21.

Your radical stance always puts your argument on shaky ground. I would fully agree that the current drug laws are unbalanced and controlled by industry, not the facts, but I would struggle to say we should do away with all of them.

    1. Congress's job is to regulate commerce. If any argument can be made that drugs affect commerce, it would bring it under such jurisidiction legally speaking.

    2. Under the influence of drugs, you have, as people mentioned earlier, the potential to invade other people's rights at a much more frequent rate. So unless facilitated "drug" sections are put in place, some would stand by the philosophy that your rights end where another begins.

    3. Gambling is outlawed in the vast majority of states. This is a horrible argument.

    4. You can choose to take drugs, but you can't choose to stop for a few of them. Some drugs are a mean in which a person's freedom can be jeopardized.

Radical? I'm for human freedom, how is that radical? You're the radical one because you agree with a parental government that takes the responsibility of what's good and what's bad for you into it's own hands. The next step up from a parental government is a totalitarian one, and the two are not that far apart.

No one should regulate commerce. Frequent government intervention only hurts the economy.

So don't do these drugs in public? Holy crap this is not that hard to understand. You think if I got into a bar fight with some drunk asshole that I'd just blame it on the alcohol and not be mad at him? It was his decision for taking that drug therefore he should suffer the consequences of whatever he does while on that drug, maybe it will teach him not to drink so much next time... Whatever happened to having responsibility these days?

And if there's a possibility of some people going crazy and potentially hurting someone on drugs, that means everyone should have their right to take the drug taken away? Even the people who never did anything wrong and just kept to themselves and got high? Why should their right to take the drug be taken away also if they never did anything wrong?

Clarify. I don't even know what gambling has to do with any of this.

So why don't we just simply educate people on the effects of these drugs? If they know something is extremely addictive and will ruin their life, then maybe they wont take it? And if they still do, then they are the only one's to blame for becoming a fuck up.

So personal rights end with the "what if?" argument? The potential of invading another person's rights is irrelevant. If a person violates your rights, you should deal with them directly. Their potential misdoings doesn't give you the right to control my consumption.

It's like Kindergarten Students using scissors for school work. Let's say that Billy uses his scissors to poke Sarah. He gets suspended. The teacher realizes the potential danger in future pokings, and decides to ban the use of scissors for everyone. Is this fair? Of course not. Jimmy used his scissors responsibly, but now he is getting punished for Billy's act.

You have the freedom to do whatever you want, at the extent of others. Drugs make you high, and trust me you'll piss of alot of people in that path. You change as a person, and its not worth it.
