Do you think Genetic Engineering is Right or Wrong? Dont just vote, post your reasons why aswell.

Personally i think it is wrong that so many animals die just to try and put a human gene into an animal?

You have a very good point about it could help humans with problems they have. I was watching this program about it today and it just seemed really strange that soon we will be able to clonse humans. :\

I believe Finn is saying they are inferior because they are irrational. People with autism generally aren't irrational. Even if they were, I would argue they are the property of their parents, or other caretaker. While I don't subscribe to this viewpoint I'm pretty sure that's what he means.

It is just a phase that humans will go through, and will end up doing something bad in the future which will threaten alot of people.

Just like fossil fuels, hair spray in the 70's, etc.

Depends on what it's used for. Reversing a genetic disease? Great. Choosing the hair color of your child? Petty. Merging your child with a gorilla? Awesome, yet ethically questionable.

Genetic engineering could be very advantageous to the future generations. I do feel it could be a prosperous practice, and as Finn said, the humane killing of animals to better the human culture isn't really an atrocity.

Overall, when something turns out to be more advantageous rather than detrimental, I concur with the viewpoint; why not? If we can genetically engineer certain diseases and provide ailments to ensure the safety of another human, why not?

To provide a contradiction, I feel it could also be abused, as many things are in society today such as plastic surgery; some people use it to remove deformities and portions of their bodies which may have been irregular and unsafe to their health, but on the opposite side people use it just to make themselves more attractive. If someone abused genetic engineering they could perhaps change the color of their hair, skin complexion, or even eye color.

Overall, I believe that this engineering could better the health of our general public greatly.

As long as it is for scientific inquiry then I think anything in the name of science is right. Thus I agree with genetic engineering. How are we going to advance in the field if we cannot experiment and research?

Sure along with homeless and convicted murderers.

I'm all for genetic engineering. Don't care for human rights, so works for me. Animal testing is fine with me as well.

A person with autism is exactly inferior in our society, which brings me to a good thread.
