Make Your Computer Faster

There are a few things that you should do on a regular basis to keep your computer working well: Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmentor, Windows Updates, Check Disk, System File checker.

Disk Cleanup:
Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup |
Once it finishes scanning check all the boxes and click next.
What it does: Deletes files you don't use anymore.

Disk Defragmentor:
Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmentor |
Right click on "( C: )" and press defragment.
What it does: It rearranges your files on your hard drive so they are all together, thus quicker to retrieve.

Windows Updates:
Start | Programs | Windows Updates |
Click Custom. Check all High Priority, Software, Hardware. Install Updates
What it does: Updates your computers drivers and operating system.

Check Disk:
Start | Run | cmd | type "chkdsk /f" then "y" and restart your computer.
What it does: Searches your hard drive for damaged clusters.

System File Checker:
Insert your installation CD, Start | Run | cmd | type "sfc /scannow"
What it does: Scans your computer for corrupted operating systems files and fixes them.

Third Party Programs:
Regseeker-Registry Cleaner
Ad-Aware Anti-Spyware
Spybot-Anti-virus (removes kellogers)

Basic Computer Guide:

Case
The case is the outside container that hold your PC together.

Power Supply
Distributes Power to all the parts of you PC.

Hard Drive
The Hard Drive is were all of your data is stored.

RAM (memory)
RAM (Random Access Memory) is were is were your applications are when they are in use. The more RAM you PC has the easier you can use multiple programs. Your computer needs RAM because accessing your hard drive to use an application is a lot slower.

CPU
The CPU does all of the process, like mathematical equations. It is basically a super calculator that does thousands of processes a minute. Some people consider it the brain of the computer.

Motherboard
The motherboard connects all the parts together so they can communicate. The motherboard most of the time includes a graphics card and a network interface card (NIC).

You might want to add Regseeker to the list (as XP suffers from a registry bloat). It cleans the whole thing and makes up considerable speed.

It updated quite regularly by Microsoft updates (as long as you receive them). It's good because users who can't access the Internet to download a third party program can run it just off their Windows Platform.

 

Auslogics have some great software thats free. Registry Defrag, Disk Defrag... Also XP Tweak Mechanic works farely well... FreeRAM XP Pro also helps if you dont have much RAM... I use all the software and it makes my Pentium 2 with 128 mags of RAM run quite well... Also overclocking can rly speed up your computer... i did that aswell...
