I know its hard to believe, but you can actually get a virus inside of your speakers, that could be one option.

But then again it could also be, you have a cellphone or something that interferes with the frenquency of your speakers and causes the noise,

and it could be loose cords, or wiring, etc.

I had this problem before, my case was I had a legit virus in my speakers, so I had to get new ones, common problems after getting my speakers fixed with the noise was due to the fact my cellphone was on the computer desk, but if I had it away from the computer it would work fine.

A virus? No, speakers don't get viruses that harm them physically. A software virus might mess up your sound drivers and/or settings, however.

In addition to the ideas stated above: If you're on Windows, check your sound settings to see whether the "Wave" volume is at 100% - it shouldn't be.

Your problem description is too vague to troubleshoot specifically. The easiest way to isolate the problem is to plug the power to your speakers into a power source in the other end of your house and plug the mini-jack into a phone or similar. If the problem still persists, your speakers are the culprit.

If you hear an unusual sound - it is because your phone or another computer is nearby, move it more further.

    Why do my speakers tick?

    1) Interference from devices like routers/cell phones/etc.
    2) Bad drivers
    3) Sound card dying
    4) Speakers dying/damaged
    5) If your computer is 2+ years old and used a lot, there could be interference from other inputs near the sound card. For example, my soundcard receives interference from my mouse. Every time I move my mouse, I hear rustling in my speakers. This is because the signals my mouse is sending to the motherboard is interfering with the sound card.

You have an electronic device with a wireless signal in the nearby vicinity.

    Why do my speakers tick?

Its not the phone thing. They tick every like 4 seconds constantly. Which is just noticed they are not right now. So I don't know.

    Why do my speakers tick?

What kind of a ticking? Could you by chance record it and upload it to youtube or something?

A tick-tick-tick like a clock ticking couldn't be magnetic interference since that would be a constant hum. It may be power cycles shifting phase causing it to reverberate through your speakers (which would actually ironically enough be magnetic interference since when the phase changes the magnetic field flips) though this is also highly unlikely.

Could it be that your motherboard is sending it a signal every four seconds? Has this happened with any other speakers?
