[Denied]Allow Graphics designer funrank to link to GFX thread

Absolutely support. In my opinion, GFX rank is a well-respected title (more so than PR and community ranks) and those who have earned it should absolutely be entitled to advertise their threads.

I would love to see more fun ranks being given out to encourage greater forum participation.

question, why is gfx fun rank more important than PR & CDT?
Gfx has nothing to do with bettering the community as it is simply a business.
CDT & PR are people that work/volunteer their own time to helping better the community, put on events, and advertise for the site.

Let me dumb this simpler if you don’t understand

Gfx - skill - “business” you make $$ you are hyperlinked to your business to make 100% for yourself no one else.

CDT/PR - volunteer, community work, volunteer, volunteer, no pay, volunteer, work on your own personal time, volunteer

So idk how you can literally say gfx can be a well respected fun rank, kinda a shame/ slap in the face to the people that volunteer to help better this site.

Fair point however I'd like to say that these members have helped Sythe to an extent, for example MoonGlare obtained it by designing the Sythe logo and people like T1N0 have earned it from helping out community teams (CDT), if they are encouraging people to join the CDT/PR and other community teams, why shouldn't people who do exceptional work for the community teams by providing decent quality graphics not be allowed to link their threads to their rank?

 

Very simple, MOTM events. The MOTM events have been going on for quite a while, and users with the most points at the end of the year ARE awarded a competition funrank currently. That could be switched to either the Graphics rank OR more graphics competitions can be held for users to achieve the GFX funrank.

We have since had many great people who have contributed to CDT/PR in terms of graphics and not receive the rank, this is why it would be unfair for the current users of the fun rank to link it.

 

Would support this; this allows new graphics designers to apply and 'earn' it instead of the current process.

 

Fair point however I do believe users are able to obtain it depending on their work within the community. I do believe SCAR/Java ranks SHOULD allow you to link to your threads however I'm not too sure if anyone actually programs in SCAR anymore as I haven't seen a single thread offering SCAR programming services. As for Java, why not.

If its to do with the lack of people who have the rank then more Graphics competitions should be held for more individuals to obtain the rank.

 

Specialty funranks like the programmer and graphic designer ones are given out at @Sythe 's discretion whenever he feels someone has earned it, typically though helping him with a project directly. People aren't given it based on work for the community, otherwise people like myself and @BlackBlasses (and probably others i'm forgetting) who have done countless hours of work for the community would have it. The first graphic designer funrank was actually @MoonGlare after he won a competition and was allowed to create a funrank of his choice.

In regards to the suggestion at hand, if it's easy enough to implement I don't see why this shouldn't be a thing.

I don't see the problem with this. However I also don't see any applicable uses. Was this ever an issue for gfx artists? The only issue I see here is that there are many gfx artists out there without a funrank, and this could be seen as somewhat unfair to those people. However, I support any added functionality as long as it is deemed useful by the community. Having the ability to click on any rank and see what that rank means or why they have the rank would be useful for newcomers and interesting in my opinion.

You misunderstand my comment; I would venture to think most people do not go "Oh, a very uncommon fun rank, let me click it to go to their graphic design page."

OMMs hold a slightly different clout than a graphic designer, yet their links also go out of date.

This seems like an extra, unnecessary, task that will affect almost nobody and if it is incorporated, individuals may not even realize they can click on a rank to take them there.

Signature advertising is likely to be much more effective and if someone is actively looking for graphics, I imagine they will check the section. If necessary/if there isn't already, there could be a compiled list of "graphic designers" or "SOTM designers" (or whatever) for easy graphics searching

If its the case of people not knowing about ranks being clickable, don't you think there should be a post or something informing people, maybe an announcement of some sort?
