When you start up a new world it is completely and randomly generated. You can do really what ever you want. Most people choose to make a nice house and then expand it to what ever they want. The biggest feature is that you can really do what ever you want and there is no story line or anything you need to follow. Just you and your blocks.

No the comic isn't actual gameplay. The point is to run around, day or night, and collect materials like wood, iron, gold, etc. and avoid being killed by mosters that come out at night. The worlds are randomly generated so you can walk for ever, and it'll just keep generating new terrain. Alternatively, the game generates caves and mines so if you start digging into a mountain, you're bound to find a big, wide open cave or mine shaft full of materials and monsters. You can craft things with the materials you dig up like armor, decorations, tools, boats, minecarts and tracks, houses, food and weapons etc. One defining characteristic of the game is that the graphics aren't developed. Everything is made out of big blocks and to collect material or to level uneven terrain, you hold the left mouse button while your cross hairs are on a block, and after a few hits, the block will break. You can then pick up the smaller icon that comes out of any block you break which can be placed anywhere you want.

That's the game, in a nutshell.

 

I get bored after a while, since I hate travelling so much and finding the time to find caves.

Though, the point of the game is to explore the huge map, looking for caves, creating things to help you along the way. That is how I would describe it.

Yes, you can on multiplayer servers, which can range from a multitude of minigames, to the creation of a city or small town, or a giant volcano, its pretty unique.

 

One thing you should know, however, is that it's not the same online experience as runescape.

the 1 million people who play minecraft aren't all on the same global server, but people make their own servers. You just have to find someone with a good server who has decent anti-grief mods and get their server IP and you can play with them and anyone else who's on that IP.

Griefing is where someone gets on a server and sets fire to everything the server users have built. Anti-grief mods are just mods to prevent anyone from starting a fire anywhere in the server and prevent people from busting blocks anywhere within a set distance of the spawn point (where server users generally like to build their houses). Basically, it prevents people from being an ass and destroying what others build.

minecraft is single player and multiplayer. Ill explain the single player.

Once you enter a world it is completely generated world, no word is the same. You are a human and the main objective is to survive zombies and skeletons during the night. Along the way you grab natural recourses and make things like axes, pickaxes. On the first night, you aim is to take shelter so you dont get attacked. After you survive the first night you would try to build a home that can protect you and that has nice features. Example: My minecraft house has a door, crafting table, furnace, bank chest with a underground mine that allows me to find 'Diamond' 'Iron' to build more advance pickaxes. Such as bronze and rune in runescape. It goes from Wood - Diamond in minecraft. Diamond being the most advance pickaxe of cource.

Using your crafting bench you can create things that will improve your house and make it more attractive. Building doors and fancy features will make your house look nice. Example: I build a mad house a few months back that has a lava display, furnace room.
