    Restructuring the global moderator system

Hey everyone, I think it's time that we make some changes to how the global moderator position works on sythe. Right now as it stands, this is how it works:

-Hardest working sectionals get promoted to global. No room for growth. No more incentives (aside from the occasional admin promotion), and no real new tasks other than slightly more sway in decisions.

-They are almost like glorified sectionals, but less to do considering the sectionals handle each section.

-No real defined task other than to moderate each section (which the sectionals already do).

-Leaves room for globals to do next to nothing important and still retain the position

How can we fix this problem? We need to give global moderators a more specific task to do instead of just "general moderating", which the sectionals and admins can already handle easily.

Globals should be given Section Leader positions. What this means is that each global moderator will be a leader for a specific section. For example, MohtasaUnique could be the leader of the Off-Topic section, and he would be in charge of general growth/development/management of that section. This would still leave room for all the general moderating tasks globals need to participate in, but it would also give them a more specific duty as well.

Right now we have a few sectionals who try to do competitions in their section to increase activity, but it doesn't always work out well. A global moderator in charge of that section could help direct all the sectionals to work on specific tasks that would help increase the forum's activity. So instead of just a bunch of globals doing everything every other global does, they could each have their own area to improve upon.

Each section should have at least 1 global leader (including less active sections such as programming). Of course there could be co-leadership in sections considering there is a pretty large amount of globals right now.

This would also be a much better gauge on global moderator quality as well. It would be pretty easy to tell who is putting forth the effort in their sections and who isn't.

Also, this idea is open for any tweaks that people think would improve it. If you see a flaw in the plan, please don't just think about how it would hurt, think about how it can be changed to help.

    Thanks.

I'm pretty sure this had existed before, it was removed when Finn went up to administrator and started sorting out and booting out inactive staff if I remember right. He brought back the Global system after he did this (which is what we have now).

As for the idea to revert, I'd say it depends if the Globals are up for it and ready to take it on. If not, then it likely won't happen.

Moved, Globals do have more responsibilites than just general moderating. We have to issue profile bans, change user control panel settings, clean old threads and move them to the archive, voting of all sorts, helping sectional moderators who need additional powers to complete scam reports, etc. Adding the extra responsibility of ALSO running all sythe events AND babysitting sections and their moderators would drive us over the edge I believe. Or maybe I'm only speaking for myself.

That just adds another disincentive to be global.
