    Ban Disputes

Well i thought about this for awhile now and decided it couldn't hurt to suggest. Well i recently read about a dispute about a member being hacked and got banned. For a case such as this why is only one mod is posting on the subject and it gets archived or locked.

Mods are not getting paid for doing this service but at least give members a fair trial min 3 mods posting on a subject such as the one i listed above now if X mod banned Y member then only X mod can post and archive if he/she sees fit.

Also why is it a problem if a member disputes a hacked/banned scenario a year later? why should he/she be punished if he/she can't repair the damage done because those members got banned themselves? or inactive..which ever comes first.

Tl;dr first suggestion 2-3 mods should post on a dispute before getting archived.

second suggestion there really shouldn't be a limit on disputes unless you know that person did wrong and is trying to get off the hook easily.

    Ban Disputes

I'm tempted to suggest they get rid of the dispute a ban section entirely, and go back to simply dealing with it on MSN as they used to. Very few members actually get unbanned, and probably fewer deserve to be.

"I was hacked" disputes are probably the most annoying to deal with, because it's extremely difficult for a user to prove (IP changes are easy to fake, and staff can't distinguish between a stolen and sold Sythe account). Even when a user can prove they were hacked, (or at least convince staff that they were), the answering mod has to track down all outstanding scam reports, and ensure that everyone gets reimbursed. In instances where it's been over a month, it's significantly harder for the disputing user to contact and repay those scammed. (Not to mention suspicious that they'd wait so long).

There's enough to do on the site that it would be utterly inefficient to have numerous mods review every issue, especially when the proper action is clear. If a dispute is rejected and the member feels they were treated unfairly or have questions about the decision, they can always try another mod via MSN for clarification/another opinion.

    If you wait too long..

Evidence can be lost and harder to track down.

Also, there's a limit to 1 dispute, if they have already been denied, they have to get over it.

If you wait OVER A YEAR? After being hacked, either 1. You faked your hacking IE- used a proxy or something else, or 2. You don't care about it and or sythe and perhaps want to scam with the account.

Same reason they didn't let some one recov his old sythe acc from like 05 or 06.

I was waiting for you to post:p

Now for your first suggestion: I know which report your talking about, and if you would've read it carefully I mentioned that 3 mods agreed with the ban and Pen later approved of it, so I simple archived any further disputes.

Second suggestion: Why would you honestly wait so long? As Sin said, it raises a red flag as you could have simply been waiting until the member who reported you left so that you wouldn't have to repay what was scammed.

your right I personally do not want that section there because more then half the time the ban stands because on sythe you don't get a second chance. But then again their are exceptions that do get a second chance giving the circumstance and how well ''Known'' the person is.

Also the ip system is very hard to track but it don't work both ways as it should. Mods use ip's to track and ban if matched but if it's unmatched they should be unbanned.

Lets look at this for a moment how can one successfully prove he or she was hacked? You can claim so but what if your not believed but you were there will be no chance of you getting unbanned. it is suspicious they would wait so long as it lesses the chance of a mod to believe you done such a thing or your trying to wait it out.
Oh no skele you got me wrong i was only using it as an example of the time period of his dispute not the posting of mods i sorta crammed it together i apologize.

That is so true and i won't argue other wise. On average i visit sythe twice a week so if my activity went down because i lost interest in the site itself to about once every 2 weeks if i get hacked and banned i wouldn't know. Lets make the scope larger if i left sythe for 2 months without word and was hacked i still wouldn't know. So i come back 3 months later and try to dispute which will get denied maybe idk.

But you are correct it does raise a red flag but why not ban the person from where ever the crime was committed be it the market such as daily, off topic ,Rs section ect..

Getting the required proof of your hacked account is slim to none because you simply can't prove you have been hacked other then ip's which sin said that is sorta hard to work with alone.

They were not unbanned for a good reason most likely. The odds of someone getting unbanned for something they didn't do is low everyone i know that has been banned sold a story of being hacked. Not to aim this at anyone but they were very known members former mods,MM ect.. they were given a second chance but stripped down of their ranks.

old disputes should be treated the same as a normal dispute if the evidence stands strong let them stay banned. Now if all the pieces given are good mods are there...evidence is weak why shouldn't they be unbanned?

Don't remove that section. I use it for my daily entertainment.

I'd have to agree though that 90%+ of those threads are wasting mods times.

If the evidence is still there, then we will most likely deal with it. In the case you mentioned, the person who got scammed had left Sythe, and thus we had to use the one month rule as he could have simply been waiting for him to leave Sythe before disputing to avoid paying back what was scammed.

In that situation he deserves to be banned or could of gotten a market ban because he is here to scam and if the proof was there he should be just perm banned.
If a mod suspects the person waited out the scam then he/she can ban is he or she thinks that user deserves it but some users get off easily because of their status on sythe if they use the same reason as a normal user.

edit: i might have worded that poorly and i am not trying to suggest all mods or even some do what i mentioned above but to some members other then myself will disagree with the unban of some members that is neither here or there but how many people have been unbanned because they were not ''KNOWN'' to do such an act and had a place of a sorta friendship with a mod/admin.

I don't know what you're talking about, but I hope you aren't suggesting that we unban our friends.
