    A warning about PayPal

Hey Sythers. Any experienced seller knows to make the buyer add a disclaimer in the email, such as:

"I am paying for virtual goods which I have already received and am satisfied with. I will not attempt to charge back the money I am sending or disrupt the recipient in any way."

I learned today, however, that even if they do this, if they pay with a credit card, the payment can be reversed. Someone (not from here but from RSBot) made a $19 payment to me 2 days ago. They put that exact disclaimer in the email. Yesterday, I got a dispute notice, saying that the buyer claimed an "Unauthorized Payment" with their credit card company. PayPal asked me if I had any proof to deny the claim, and I showed them the email that the buyer sent me. Today, the case was closed, and the money was removed from my account. He successfully reversed the payment. If you want to be absolutely sure this doesn't happen, you may want to not accept credit card payments.

I've had a couple of people charge back, and since you have no supporting evidence they are usually given the benefit of the doubt... Contacting paypal officials is always the easiest way to avoid that, however they may lock your account for making suspicious sales. Happened to me last year, 180 day wait to get the account unlocked.

No. There is always a chance for a dispute no matter what method you use. Unless you have proof that you delivered the item (which is impossible if you're selling a virtual item) then you're out of luck.

I'm gonna try to figure out if there's a way to tell. If there is, I'm not going to accept credit cards anymore D:

If you have a premier account, then you should be used to fee's when sending and receiving normal payments. However, for personal payments, which includes gifts and payment owed, you will not be deducted a fee.

I'm pretty sure that if they payed you regularly their adress would show up. However if the money was sent as a gift their address won't show up. I could be wrong its what I heard from someone else.

Yeah, it's so easy for people with credit cards to get their money back.
