Made a piece - need opinions

What do you guys think?



EDIT: I pretty much made it from scratch, only thing I used were two cloud stocks for the nebula.

Take a look at that, and look at how the background is done.
The background on yours is kindof boring, there's not much going on and the text looks very ugly on it.. definitely improve on those things.
Read the tutorial and improve it, definitely looking forward to what you can do next up

 

I noticed so that's why I changed it (In v2 )

 

V1 looks much better, using a stock lens flare isn't a good idea just pasting it over the entire thing. You should do a slight Gaussian Blur to the background to and erase some of it to give it the feeling of depth, and maybe a slight blur on the smaller planet. It's getting there though, keep working.

 

The lens flare is actually in the background, I used a soft white brush to give it a feeling of light.

The blur does seem like a good idea, and how could I get another lens flare that isn't stock?

 

Try smudging it or lowering the opacity or changing the blend mode, or a combination of adjustment layers and effects. Just so it doesn't look like you blatantly pasted it in.

V1 and V3 are ok, but could be beter.

V2 doesn't look that good, edit the light more.

 

Notice the 3 white smudged looking marks, I would remove those and edit the colors of the nebula to reflect the colors of the overall sig better and lessen the blur on the right planet a little bit.

 

I think you should start back at v2.

Change the blending mode of the nebula and opacity so it blends better, also change the orientation a bit. Currently it's not lending itself towards the rest of the piece.

I think the problem with the lens flare is that the depth of the lines isn't congruent with the depth of the planets (This is more obvious in v3 when the lines on left and right are the same length which makes the planets look the same distance yet their shadows suggest otherwise).

Change the purple-to-black gradient dramatically to something a little less 'flat'.

I hope this doesn't sound over-critical, you are making progress with it^_^ .

Nice Job on v4. Not my area of expertise, but I would say it's about ready. The nebula actually seems a bit excessive at this point, because the lens flare just looks like a sun. Maybe put it in a less conspicuous place.

 

That's not a lens flare ^_^ I made it myself with brushes + inner + outer glow.

 

Yeah, but it was supposed to replace the stock lens flare, wasn't it?

 

Last one is the best, but it's a little monotone and needs some more work on lighting. Keep going

 

In a sense, yes, in a sense, no.

Its just a way to get a lighting effect into the piece to make it more interesting. A lens flare can also be used for that (Provided you smudge it enough )

 

Much better, I quite like it now.

 

it's nice and all that, but it's not much of an eye catcher IMO.
Just plain :/
