    The Span of Human Existance.

This thread is about how long you think the human race will exist. Perhaps you think it will end in 2012, perhaps you think we will survive for millions of years to come.

I personally think that there is a certain point in human inelligence. A point in which if any earth threatening natural disaster were to occur, we could detect it and prevent it from wiping out the human race. Weather it be moving to other planets or making our own sort of cellestial body that harnesses the sun's energy. This point is obviously far away, but if we were to survive long enough to reach this point, I think we will live millions if not billions of years, spreading across the cosmos perhaps.

I think that eventually, Mankind will bring around its own eradication.

Possible through the means of War, Famine/Disease, or some kind of huge Natural disaster.

    War being the most likely.

I think we will adapt or evolve. Eventually, what we are today will be different. We know that the appendix, for example, is becoming obsolete in our species, while still essential in other animals. We know that nature continues to try and bring forth genetic variations, however, they often die.

A mouse species in Chicago was discovered to have evolved in as few as 70 years. That is the traits became different enough that the two populations of mice could no longer produce offspring together.

We may become Human I and Human II.

Many of the infertile couples may be part of the process of different gene pools loosing the ability to procreate with one another. The transition may come sooner than we think. If we chart the average time for species transition, we can see that it will be upon sooner than we think.

-Either mankind causes it's own downfall (most likely)
-Mass extinction event (supervolcano, supernova sends a burst of gamma radiation from light years away in our direction, meteorite, magnetic field weakens and solar wind kills us, etc)
-Sun dies and mankind hasn't found an alternative solution

The sun will die in about 5 billion years, so it's safe to assume that mankind will find a solution by then.

I can't give a reasonable guess when, but i think the human population will continue to rise until we run out of resources to support everyone. The earth will be nothing but a wasteland because everyone will basically be arguing over the remaining resources thus sucking the world dry...

    my guess is they'll starve.

This 2012 is ridiculous. The human lifespan will survive millions of years.
This is due to the technological advancements we achieve anually which in the future, will save us from the potential end of earth.

Scientists found out that the earths climate is getting hotter every few years with 2 Celsius grades. So my guess is that if we don't find a similar planet to move on this will result in the human kinds extinction or if we do adapt or evolve the remaining earthlings will live most likely underground.

This is entirely false. If by 'every few years' you mean every 5-10 years then this statement is ridiculous. Any significant change in the average global temperature (1-3 degrees) would have drastic events. The ice caps would melt, sea levels rising etc etc.

OT: I believe that the human race will definitely survive for thousands, if not millions of coming years. However, it pains me to think that I will not be a part of this development. If the world ends in 2012 as the Mayans predicted (I very much doubt it will) it will be disappointing.

At least thats what i heard on national geographic channel and i don't think they have any reason to lie. What about the recent climate changes, global warming, tsunamis and water invading all over the world?
I live in spain where all the time is warm, but due to the recent climate changes last winter we had snow after 40 years.Yes,it never snowed here in the last 40 years.

there are very few if any species on the earth that have been around for millions of years. In my opinion humans will always find something to fight about so there will always be war. So my best guess is that war will destroy humanity.

Even if that doesn't do it there's only so many resources on this planet and so far there is no proof of an existing inhabitable planet nor is there any means of deep space travel. so sooner or later humanity will die out.

And for humans to be spread across the cosmos? Hardly even close to being a serious thought in my opinion.

The amazing thing about humanity in my opinion is that it has the ability to recover or prevent nearly any natural disaster. The true end to humanity will be humanity itself.

Rofl. The earths climate goes in a cycle,if you didnt know.so their will be the hottest temp of the year then the earth will cool itself down after like 30 years or whatever the cycle is.

In just about 10,000 years humans have become extremely intelligent beings capable of space travel and much more. I think that 5 billion years is plenty of time for humans to avert a mass extinction.

I think 30 year cycles aren't accurate. It's in the thousands of years cycles change. The human effect has impacted the cycle though - making it more drastic swings.

Assuming within that 10,000 years humans don't blow each other to bits.

Yeah, something to do with war and not anytime soon in my opinion. All that 2012 hysteria I THINK, is complete bullshit. Look at Y2K, everyone flipped out, and nothing happened, same thing is gonna happen when 2012 rolls around, when the world ends it isn't gonna have a set time or date, nobody is gonna be able to predict when/why/or what is gonna bring upon the end of the world. We can speculate and guess, which is about as close as we can get. Personally I think nuclear warfare will destroy the planet when countries start bombing each other with huge bombs, that along with bombs that will spread radiation and poisoning plants and livestock to ruin a countries food, and hinder the country helpless basically so one country can rule. That's just my opinion though.

How can you even say that the human race will last another 1,000 years? Someone within that time will surely bomb America and start a nuclear war. Everyone will react, hence ending the world(as we know it). Unless there is a meteorite on its way. The goverrnment surely wouldn't tell anyone about this though.

The human race is going to obliterate itself.

Technology and means of survival will progress, but so will means of war. There will come a time in our future where another great world war does occur and we will obliterate each other to the point where even though there are still people alive, the technology that we will have come to depend upon for survival will no longer be functional and, having been wiped out, the vast majority of those fit to repair the sorry state of post apocalyptic war humanity will be gone.

tl;dr: Like beta fish, we will kill each other.

We evolved from having to hunt for survival and living in caves to where we are at now. If we don't kill each other by means of war or anything like it, we will just keep evolving and gathering more information and intelligence. But if something were to happen to the Earth such was an asteroid, wiping us out, my prediction is that rich people will either build underground "safe-spots" or places to live, or we will move somewhere into space (given that we are aware of the problem years before it happens), and from then the survivors will create new colonies etc.
