Jail Time for Scamming Rs Accounts.

Ok I saw that some kid hacked this other kids account, and it ended up on the news/newspapers.

I also saw that the hacker got jail time. (I laughed)

Like What is that? Don't police have something better to do?

Yea hacking is wrong, but shouldn't they be arresting Criminals and Cereal Killers other then arresting 12 year olds hacking accounts?

Anyways.. Why would you go to links people send to you on runescape? Of course it's gonna be a hack or some crap like that.

 

Well because if people pay actual money for it, its scamming. (Membership, not RWT). I'd press charges if I knew the guy...not that I'd be stupid enough to fall for it.

IMHO the internet is a free-for-all.
The only way a hacker should go to jail for hacking a runescape account is if he/she hacked into the jagex database (virtual breaking and entering). But if your stupid enough to fall for a phisher or any other sort of hacking, your fault get the hell over it.

It seems silly to throw someone in jail for stealing a virtual item. It should be a simple misdemeanor because you can't put an actual value for something that is virtual and not legally sold.

Its Serial killer not cereal, but ya the internet should not be something that can throw you in jail -.-, if you get hacked thats your own damn fault

 

If you are stupid enough to get scammed then you are obviously too stupid to be allowed on the internet.

Essentially, all the thief has taken is the username and password to access a set of animated pixels. It's not like stealing a 900 quid computer or something, it's trivial.

And if you give someone your password, it's like giving the whole account away. Like me giving you the key to my house.

 

The accounts don't actually belong to you, they're Jagex's property. You just rent them. You can't sell something you don't own.

Not to mention you're going against the policy you said you'd abide by.

 

Yep So if You try to sell or something.. Then it's not there fault. I don't see why they will jail you for something stupid.

Stealing is a crime. I think jail time for scamming makes sense.

 

I've been hacked for over $400. I lack significant proof to penalize the two people who scammed me, and I can not chargeback my money because I rightfully sent it as a gift.

Yes I believe jail time should be given for virtual crime, just as it is for petty-theft of similiar value of stolen items IRL.

 

Most likely it's because he was spreading a RAT in order to get the passwords, which can be illegal.

Anyway it should be punished until theres money involved.
