99 Atk/Str/Def (In f2p)

I'm not a member yet, but I plan on being one soon, so I don't know any of the really good training spots for p2p, so this guide is only for f2p.

Assuming you know nothing about RS, here's what all 3 melee stats mean:

Attack - How often you hit the enemy
Strength - How hard you hit
Defence - How often you get hit & how hard


I try to keep my atk and str around the same level, but str ususally is higher. This way, you hit often and hard. My defence could use some work, but if you kill them quickly, it doesn't matter. Anyway, that choice is up to you. Find what you like best and stick with it. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE CONTROLLED FIGHTING! YOU LOSE XP IF YOU DO! You normally get 4xp per hit. If you use controlled, you only get 3.


Atk/Str/Def Lvl 1-20
At this point, I recommend you keep all 3 stats around the same level. It's easy to train them, so there's no point in leaving one behind and getting the others up really fast. If you can, get full iron, or bronze, and a bronze/iron scimmy/longsword. Go to the Crafting Guild (south-west of Falador). Beside the Guild are cows. These cows are your new best friends. Kill them until all 3 stats are lvl 20. Whenever possible, ungrade your weapons/armor, so that you get the best efficeincy out of your lvls.

Atk/Str Lvl 21-35
This is where you want to up your atk and str so that you can start to do some real damage. However, your def will still be low, so you can't fight anything that does too much damage. You may either stay at the cows and continue to lvl up there. Or, you can go to the Stronghold of Security. This is my favorite place to train, on any stat. Go south and then take an immediate east. You should be in a room that has Minotaurs and some Wolves in it. I wouldn't worry about killing the Wolves, just the Minotaurs. They are not very hard to kill, and they drop cooked meat (good if you don't have food) and iron arrows, which you should keep for ranging. Train on these guys until you get 35 atk and 35 str.

Def Lvl 21-40
Train your def only once your atk and str are at lvl 35, not before. This is a waste of time, as it will take FOREVER. At this point, go to (or stay) at the Minotaurs (see above for directions). Kill these guys until your def has reached lvl 40.

At this point, you should start doing some of the quests. I recommend you do the following quests to get you some xp and some cash: Black Knights' Fortress; Demon Slayer; Ernest the Chicken; Goblin Diplomacy; The Knight's Sword; The Restless Ghost; Shield of Arravv (you need a partner for this quest); Vampire Slayer; and Witch's Potion. You should do most of those quests, all of them is recommended. And you can do some that aren't listed here.

Atk/Str Lvl 35-45
I recommend you train str first, but it doesn't matter. At this point, you have a few options. You can go to the Minotaurs where you were at before, or, if you want more of a challenge, go to the harder Minotaurs in the South-East part of the first level in the Stronghold. Or, you can train on Guards. I recommend either one of the Minotaur spots. Train here until you reach 45 atk and str. When you get 40 atk, go buy a rune scimmy and/or a rune longsword. This is a MUST, it's the last chance you'll get to upgrade your weapons until you become a member! If you don't have the money, get some!

Dragon Slayer
Now, you are ready for the infamous Dragon Slayer quest. This quest is by far the hardest and longest quest you will do as a f2p. Buy a rune full helm, kite sheild (but use the dragon shield), platelegs, and a chain body. Once you're done with Dragon Slayer, you will get a good amount of xp and the ability to wear the rune platebody. Buy the platebody, so that you have full rune.

Atk/Str/Def to Lvl 60
Now, go to the Minotaurs in the South-East room on the first level of the Stronghold of Security. These are your new friends. Train on them until you get 60 of each stat. I trained str, then atk, then def, but that's up to you. I recommend you collect the iron arrows they drop if you want to train your range.

Atk/Str/Def 60-99
Now we're going to skip the second level of the Stronghold, and go straight into the 3rd. When you reach the third, go through the doors to the north. In this room at Giant Spiders. Here is your new home. Put a poster up on the wall, cuz you're gonna need it. These spiders have low defence, and you get over 200xp per kill. At this point, you'll kill them fairly quickly, so it'll go by faster than you think.

I hope you don't stay a f2p until you get 99 atk/str/def. Once you get about 60-70 of each, you should become a member. Hope this guide helps!
