Jump Up, Jump Up, And Get down...Off that balcony

Protesting austerity measures, a Romanian public-television technician jumped off a balcony in Parliament today during a speech by the country's prime minister. The man, who has an autistic son, survived the 20-foot fall, which was broadcast live on national TV.

The protester was identified as 40-year-old Adrian Sobaru. As Prime Minister Emil Boc spoke ahead of a no-confidence vote against his government, Sobaru, wearing a T-shirt declaring "You killed our future," shouted and then jumped.

There are differing accounts of what exactly he said. According to the Romanian site HotNews, he said, "You took the bread away from the mouths of my children, you killed the future of our children!" Romania Insider reports it as "Boc, you've taken away children's rights!"

Insider writes that Sobaru broke a parliamentarian's desk when he landed, "injuring himself badly." Paramedics told HotNews he broke a leg and injured his nose.

Austerity measures have included 25% pay cuts for civil servants like Sobaru and cuts in payments to parents with disabled children, which he was also receiving.

Well I guess that is one way of getting your point across. I'm glad he stood up for what he believes in but I think there are probably better ways of doing that then just jumping and screaming. Also the fact that he lived kind of kills the whole "He died for his beliefs."

 

That's what made me lol. Too bad for him. Although he did fight for his belief, now he'll be confronted by his family members and the cops.
