    Why do we dream?

Is it to fulfill our fantasies that won't come true?

Is there a meaning behind dreams?

    Why do we dream?

Dreams in your sleep, or just a dream you have set for yourself?

A dream is motivation. The biggest goal you've set yourself out to accomplish. Some people aspire to have a simple dream, which can easily come true. Some others dream up into the sky, and try their hardest, and fail. But it gives hope and motivation to get your ass in that seat. That's how I see it.

Edit: Took it the wrong way.

    Why do we dream?

I dreamed that I had sex with Mariah Carey last night. I dunno, because she's all pregnant now... so... I'd like to hope that dreams are just random occurrences in our heads, like when you're daydreaming or lost in thoughts and you think of some crazy shit.

    Why do we dream?

I rarely dream anything or I just cant remember, but I don't think it does have any meaning. Don't know why I think that, but I just do.

    Why do we dream?

I think there are many reasons we dream. Some of the most meaningful dreams I've had at times when I was struggling with something or trying to make a big decision. I think these dreams were all from my subconscious mind. However, I've also had some very silly dreams that were probably a result of something funny that happened during the day or a result of indigestion or something like that...

    Why do we dream?

When we're dreaming our limbic systems (which control our emotions) are exploding like fireworks with neural activity, suffusing our dreams with drama. While we're asleep the frontal lobes of our brain that govern logic "disengage." Which concurs why every dream is a bizarre collage of events and people alike. Straight out of my Myer's AP Psych book for your glucose hungry head organs :)

    Why do we dream?

You always dream as long as your alive - the brain is always active so when we sleep our brain projects images of what we unconsciously think. If our brain stopped working while we slept we would be dead.

    Why do we dream?

Dreaming is just your subconscious isn't it?
A lot of things are happening in your subconscious even now, you just don't know it.

    Why do we dream?

apart from the hilariousness, that is false i believe. i've slept a lot before without dreams and no consequences came from it.

On topic: I believe dreams are just the subconscious images and things played in your mind when you are asleep, which often defy logicality.

    Why do we dream?

As said previously, everybody dreams. Some people just don't remember their dreams.

I've many dreams (that I remember) where I accomplished some huge goal.

    Why do we dream?

You dream in REM, when your occipital lobe is most active. Your eyes dart back and forth in your head and stuff.

There are random neuron firings going on while you sleep, for reasons unknown; some people claim that it's because the brain is addicted to perception, even when it rests. These neural firings then must be made sense of, because the brain likes organization. It's not necessarily true that the frontal lobe "turns off" during sleep as someone said earlier. This is simply a theory. But then again the entire brain basically shuts down for rest during sleep, and these firings keep it going.

I forget the name of this theory, but it's just that... A theory. There's no proof involved.
