Energy Drinks and their REAL effects on health

Recently I was researching online for the REAL effects that energy drinks have on the body, and what I found was not conclusive. Most articles I read were based on biased opinions or completely untrue thoughts. Most had no real scientific basing EX:Caffeine is is bad for you duh..........

Anyways I would like to hear YOUR opinions on energy drinks and how it affects our bodies. Using reasoning to explain your thoughts is appreciated Thank you :)

I have always just heard they were bad but never knew why. For me, if I drink them, I have to drink them all the time otherwise I'm extremely tired no matter how much sleep I get.

Ulcers, Insomnia, Hypertension, Osteoporosis... the usual jargon associated with a high caffeine consumption.

Also, kidney stones seem to be an increasing problem in the number of casual energy drink consumer.

But if a person lets the effects of the caffeine wear off before they have another its not necessarily bad right?

Ex:1 red bull every 6-8 hours or like twice a day

I don't really drink energy drinks for a couple of reasons.

    1) Most energy drink brands claim that their drink will help you stay awake and alert etc etc. through the use of caffeine. However, I compared the sugar and caffeine content of a can of pepsi and a can of red bull, and it was near enough the same.

    2) In my opinion, they aren't even that nice. Nothing compared to pepsi/coke etc.

I don't think it's that bad if you take like 1-2 a day.
and it doesnt really contain that much Caffeine tbh.

I guess you forgot Glucuronolactone and Taurine. Besides the amount of caffeine is 2-3 times as much as a can of coke (1 cup of coffee.) at least for Red Bull.

Almost all of the energy drinks are just huge amounts of sugar (one 250ml can of red bull contains about two tablespoons of pure sugar) and caffeine (80mg per 250ml can, about the same as a cup of coffee).

Regularly consuming this amount of sugar over time puts the drinker at a risk of adult-onset (type 2) diabetes, as well as obesity.

It has been suggested that drinking sugar and caffeine-heavy energy drinks is dangerous to the heart:

Yeahh. I've always been told they've been bad for me. I don't really drink them. If I feel tired, I'll get a cup of tea or something. There's no real reason for shitty tasting, sugar overloaded, energy drinks when tea's around.

I think anyone who's actually drank an energy drink such as Powerade, Lucozade Sport etc before playing sport knows how bad of an idea it is.

    tl;dr it gives biggg cramps

Less then two lines doesnt qualify for a tl;dr xD

To be honest, I don't think that those sports energy drinks (Gatorade etc) should be in the same league as Redbull etc. Sports drinks can have positive effects on health, restoring electrolytes (salts) to the body after prolonged exercise.

Has anyone else noticed that its always the less energetic people, i.e. people who mainly sit behind computers all day, seem to consume the most energy drinks.

After exercise, maybe, but you wouldn't want to be drinking any before.

If you are Working and Being active, Energy Drinks arent bad for you. But if you drink them like 3/4 a day with no activites...then they could be potentially bad for you.

I loved it when this old man stopped me in the middle of the street and pointed at some kid with a monster and he said "This is why kids are fucked these days" I couldn't stop laughing cause i couldn't agree more.

Back in high school my friend was a state swimmer and he took 5 hour energy, he always placed 1st. Guess what happened this time, 4th in everything, later crashed and was sent to the hospital.

Keep your shit healthy, stop drinking all these dumb ass things companies are profiting off.

They are obv bad for you.

It's like weed. It makes you feel good for the moment and shit later.

Tbh for me energy drinks are nasty. If I needed to stay up late I doubt I go for that option to keep me awake.

I find it funny that this huge kid comes in to my health class everyday with a giant monster. My teacher lectures us all the time about energy drinks.

got into reading up on the health effects of modern day life (had to go to books, like you i found online info was complete shit).

can't remember anything on energy drinks, but (offtopic) the following are probably worse for you.

    - drinking from plastic bottles (repeatadly)
    - cooking with teflon frypans etc
    - using most deodorants/fragrances
    - air freshners
    - flame retardents (in a lot of clothing)
    can't think of the rest.

but the point was we're getting fucked up by corporations and mass media

Energy drink are obviously bad for you, but I think they're alright at keeping you awake if you really need to be. I'm under the impression that they're basically like "rebellion in a can". Kids drink them because it pisses off adults and specifically because everyone knows they're not good for you.
