In regards to the Spyike issue

This is just a personal opinion, not a demand or anything like that. First off I am talking about this thread: http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?p=7308879#post7308879

I think Spyike was one of the best members of Sythe, he caught many ban evaders and set up and ran the whole paypal donation service. He also helped many users with different issues that people had. I don't know the whole thing behind the whole thing between him and Finn but from what I can tell it is an argument that is getting in the way of the work that needs to be done. The point of an admin or moderator is to keep the site going safe and clean of spammers and such. An argument like this should be off site and shouldn't relate to bannings/promotions. To sum it up I think Spyike should be brought back and he and Finn still have issues than they should decide those away from Sythe such as not to cause drama for every one else. Thanks for reading this and seriously have some respect and don't troll.

 

On the Spyike thread "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 17 (8 members and 9 guests)" ohdamn. But on a more serious note, he's coming back, idk if as mod or not, but he'll be back as a member. Why'd his mod position get taken away, anyways?

if you read his dispute thread it sounds like he's not coming back unless he gets global + Finn goes under review

 

If I have an opinion on this matter.

I've never seen a forum who has such a dependency on who gets moderator. It's like getting moderator on this forum is a goal for some. I can understand the benefits, I just don't understand what the big deal is about a person who gets access to a private lounge and can move and lock threads. Rarely do you see people here who are here just for the sake of enjoying the discussion. I'll admit I've wanted moderator in the past, but it's only a phase I went through. In my opinion, being moderator is no longer about helping the site, but merely personal satisfaction. At the same time, I don't think we should criticize moderators over every little debacle that occurs on the site. At least not openly. The PM system is a great way to resolve conflict, or alternatives such as IM. Taking problems to open forums or IRC channels is only damaging the site.

Nothing against Finn or Spyike.

 

I strongly agree with Marrow, I agree that it is tempting to just want to become a mod that doesn't really help the site. Thanks for the feedback though.

I may be new, but I have to agree. I don't know how the moderators get chosen or anything like that, but it really does seem like people make a big deal out of it. Like, people get promoted and there is a promotions thread and everyone gets really excited about it. Being a moderator seems like an accomplishment but really its just extra work for them to do to give back to the community. Spyike is an ex global right? Well, I don't see why him and Finn can't have a adult conversation honestly. Just based on that thread it seems like the moderators are admins are just a big mess. That really doesn't help anyone and should be addressed in a adult manner. :/

 

Turns out Spyike was perm banned on request, not 3-day'd due to his rage/spam posts like I thought (he also said he was 3 day'd in his dispute, but Finn said he was perm'd on request... )

 

He was issued a 3 day ban, didn't like it then asked for a perm, but his perm will most likely be retracted and just suffer the 3 day ban

 

I want to see what the other admins think of the situation.
