To go to Rehab or to not??

So this friend of mine goes to an addiction specialist to help with his cravings to drugs he was addicted to for about a year.

The specialist suggested to go to an inpatient rehab, the problem with that is its 29days and each day is 100$. 2900$ for the whole thing.

What my friend is thinking is he would rather go to like mexico for that money with his family, cause he thinks the rehab wont help. The reason he thinks that is because he never wanted to quit drugs in the first place it was cause his family made him. So going to a place where they teach you how to deal with this stuff (teach people who actually want to quit) would be a waste to him. He'll just get his GP doctor to put him on methadone.

Would going to rehab benefit my friend? If it was cheaper he would totally go for it but 2900$ aint cheap to just try and see... it has to be like a 100% thing.

Not to mention my friends monthly bill for his bipolar meds is 250$ and he has already been on these pills for a while totally to a complete 3000$ bill so far on just pills. My friend aint made of money.

    Any suggestions?

EDIT: he has heard there is this thing u can apply for a monthly assistance if you are bipolar, anyone have any info on this?

It's simple. If your friend doesn't have the will to quit, he needs to go to rehab. Rehab teaches someone how to live without drugs in their system.
He may be forking out 3 grand now, but it's better then continually spending money on drugs and having family issues. Simply go down to Mexico after he saves up more $$.

Well "your friend" definitely should go to rehab. Sure, it's not cheap, but in the end after the drug costs and the money you'll make from getting your act together, it'll be well worth it.

If he refuses to go because of the money, you could ask him to seriously quit within a period of time and if he can't bring himself to quit he will realize that it is more serious than what he thinks and hopefully the 3 grand will seem less significant

To go to Rehab or to not??

He already detoxed and was in a detox for a few days, and basically there they teach you the same things they would in a rehab.

Hes currently drug free, but has a hard time staying away from them cause he just wants to get high.

He quit back in Dec of 09, relapsed in March 2010, then again April 2010, then again June 2010, and has been clean as of June. He knows its just a matter of time before another relapse comes.

The only thing might be is to get on methadone (as opiates are the ones he was addicted to and lows) Or another med Subutex thats helps with cravings.

Hes really confused as to what to do, and bipolar does not help. It makes things even more confusing... bleh so frustrating....

To go to Rehab or to not??

    Im sorry to hear that.

My friend had an OD... was trying to take his life, and is surprised no one has yet addressed that seriously, as he could have died if it wasnt for someone on the street finding him.

Sometimes he thinks of checking himself in a psych ward as he has major problems all bottled up inside. But the thought of being there sort of scares him. He honestly does not care if he dies... a normal person does not think that way.

One of the other things he would like about going on methadone is to help treat his back. He has scoliosis, nerve pain, and a major f-ed up neck that instead of being a nice C curve... its a straight line with some of the bones being worn out (forgot what that was called). He cant be given anything since his drug abuse is well known by his doctor even though he is in extreme pain at times.

He feels like all his docs have given up on him, cause all his appointments are in 1 month or in 2 when he needs help like ASAP. My friend is one bundle of problems that, it seems like, no one wants to deal with.

He just does not want to spend 3grand on something that seems like it wont work for him. Maybe his mind is just playing tricks on him.

You should go and see a counselor, rehab won't help much

Ok well If I was you I'd take the opportunity to go rehab as you might end up clean and with close attention you are closely monitored and the process is done by specialists..

As above suggests go see a physiatrist as I think you require one as you accumulate so many problems.

    Good luck.

The only way someone should do methadone is if they go into the doctor to get it no one should be in possession of this drug its really easy to OD on.

    He basically took them off.
    Weed>XTC>shrooms>LSD>Mescaline>PCP>DXM>Codeine>OC's>Cocaine>Crack>Meth>Heroin

There is street methadone... easily obtainable.

My friend already sees a psychiatrist... but his next app isnt until End of October.

Well if the drugs he is using are pain killers then his best bet is to take methadone and occupy himself with hobbies. You can't just stop cold turkey when you're addicted to opiates.
