    Closing and Opening

May have been suggested but I don't know. So sorry.

Us as members should be given the right to Open and Close OUR threads when we please. I hate having people keep responding on my thread when I am out of RS Pins, and I lose track of orders and who came first.

I think this would help popular thread be more organized in a way.

    Support?

This has been suggested more than once and denied.
The reason why I'm nearly certain this won't happen is users can abuse the privelage of doing so. One could be selling an account and scam a user, delete the contents of the thread saying 'Sold' and close the thread before one could post on the thread. If the user that was scammed was unable to save any proof, then the scammer would get away unbanned.

As a result, I do not support. This is why Moderators are present. If you need a thread locked, simply send a PM to a Moderator of the Section or report the original post requesting it to be locked.

I've seen this suggested on multiple sites that I have been on in my illustrious internet career.

It has been shot down 100% of the time do to giving the ordinary member just a little too much power.

This further explains why we have moderators in the first place.

At any one time you can scroll to the bottom of the site on the main page to see what mods are currently online and simply zip a PM to one and it will be taken care of shortly.

I would support letting members open/close their own threads, assuming they couldn't override a lock placed by a moderator.

Such an addition would be of particular use in the market, where users have complained that it's unclear whether an item has been sold or not. While PM'ing a mod may be an effective alternative, it's not convenient for something as casual as closing a thread after a sale, and deters widespread use.

Users can delete and edit threads as it is.

Being able to lock a thread only prevents users from replying, but if they have a valid complaint, that's what the RaS forum is for. They're not supposed to post at all if they don't have enough evidence to back it.

You don't know how many times I've PMed a moderator requesting something simple, and they never respond.

I support. This would be very useful.

I would give my support if this were the case. But, I'm not sure it's possible or likely that we implement this system. If not, it could lead to massive abuse of opening and closing of a thread creators thread.

It would be abused too much. The proof would be gone if they deleted all the replies and locked the thread. Although a mod can certainly get it back, it would be a waste of time. Sorry, I don't support.

The person who had been scammed could use google cache, or surely have access to the admin records.

    Or not get scammed..

I was unaware that users can delete their own threads?

Even if they can't delete the thread itself, they can still edit and delete all of their own posts within the thread. The point is that the simple ability to open/lock doesn't expand the potential for abuse.

Everyone knows the response: 'We're not giving members staff powers.'

If they can close their own thread, but not open it I don't see a problem. But the response always is, no mod powers for non-staff.
