    The pledge of Allegiance

I don't really see the point in it. It was started in the '50s and '60s when we were in total distrust of non-patriots, I mean they made kids do a lot of ridiculous things in the '60s like "duck and cover" bomb protection, etc.
So why do we still say the pledge? Isn't it a given that we all acknowledge that we're American citizens? And...it's not even a requirement to be loyal to your country, yet back in elementary school any kid who didn't say the pledge was considered a weirdo. It's such propaganda anyway. "Under God"? What if I don't believe in God? I know most of the kids in my 3rd grade class said "under god, invisible...", I mean most kids barely know what they're saying. So why are they made to do it? Are they going to be worse citizens if they don't? I think the 30 seconds of class time could be better spent, even just talking to other kids.

    What are your thoughts?

    The pledge of Allegiance

I think pledging allegiance should take place on only important events. Pledging to them every day I believe is a waste of time and effort. Although, it is showing respect, I don't believe it's in need of being said day after day.

The "under God" part gets to a lot of people, but in all honesty the pledge isn't about God, it just mentions it. It is meant to be respect to your country, you don't sit down when someone is singing the national anthem, I don't see what's different here.

You don't HAVE to say the pledge...It's just a common form of respect for the country that gives you the life you have today.

If you don't believe in god then don't say that verse. If you hate the country and the government...get the fuck out of America.

The first intelligent argument in its favor. Although, anything you suggest to little kids to do might as well be a direct command. And I think it's kind of propaganda.

My school stopped saying the Pledge of Allegiance in 7th grade. Now we just have a "moment of silence"

What if you just don't like the government?

On topic: It's just another form of indoctrination.

If you actually notice how many times you have done the pledge in your life, you've probably wasted a few hours xD. Schools are depriving children of their education! xD.

Anyways, I'm too lazy to stand up to do it.

    The pledge of Allegiance

I go to a quaker school now.... So like... Moment of silences are my life... >_>. I got yelled at in kindergarten for refusing to say the pledge... So I said it wrong and the teacher told me I could go to jail for that... And my stupid mind believed her... My 5th grade teacher never did it once... And then one day was like... Oh damn. I've been forgetting that. Oh well. Its not important anyways. lol.

I haven't said the pledge since grade four.

I find no point in it.

    The pledge of Allegiance

What my country has done and what my country is are completely different. If you think I'd rather live anywhere else in the world you are sadly mistaken. I am proud of what I have, what I own, and how things are going for me right now - although I would like to think that I have a say in how things go in our government, I will always know that realistically I will never have my own voice, but that's okay.

I used to get yelled at a lot my senior year of high school for not saying the pledge just because my teacher, who was also my track coach, was an ex-marine. A true die hard american, and i didnt really give a damn for the pledge.

After going back and forth about it we compromised and i wasnt forced to say it but i atleast stood up while everyone else stood up and said it.
