    The Modern Guide to Meditatian

    The Modern American's guide to Meditation~~By Zzack13

If at any time you are confused you can refer to this video. A HUE showed it to me and in my opinion it expresses what I am trying to get across quite well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0rSmxsVHPE

    Posture and location

Posture is quite important. You can sit in any position but make sure it is comfortable and still.

You can meditate anywhere. In class, at home, in the backyard, at a friend's house. It doesn't matter where you meditate as long as it is quiet and comfortable.

    The Alterations + Meditation

Many religions practice a daily meditation that often times requires prayer or chanting. The form of meditation I will describe does not require you to practice any religion or chant any mantra or phrase.

The many versions of meditation include:
    Hinduism
    Buddhism
    Christianity
    Islam
    Jainism
    Judaism
    New Age
    Sikhism
    Taoism
    Bahá'í Faith

Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. (In our case the breath)

    The practice

First cross your legs "indian style". Then clasp your fingers loosly in or over your lap resting your arms on your legs.

Close your eyes and keep your mouth shut. Do not chant anything and stop all internal and external chatter. Clear your mind of all conversation present or past.

Relax, create mental stability. Clear your mind of every thought and lose yourself in in the darkness behind your eyelids.
Relax all of the muscles in your body but still remain conciencious and awake.

When you clear your mind of all thought you clear your mind of the many questions that come along with it.

EXAMPLE (1 simple thought creates 5 completely different new ones)

    ...Oh..? I'm hungry
    Have I eaten lunch yet?
Oh yeah I had the left over pasta..
Did I throw out my plate?
I wonder when mom is coming home I don't want her to see it sitting out..

    Observation and your body's "Pulse"

While you are sitting idle with your mind clear and you initially focus on the darkness and silence you will want to stop.

Next you will focus on the breath.

Do not inhale or exhale concienciously. Breath normally and continue to relax. Let your breathing happen naturally and observe your breath until it becomes second nature. Do this until you are not aware of anything else besides the breath coming in and out of your lungs.

Do not focus on your 1,000's of thoughts. Every time you faulter and a thought "pops" into your mind revert back to your calm breathing pattern. Block out everything; sight, smell, self conciencious worry, and emotion. Just focus on the breath and observe it, imagine it as a bright green toxin going out of your nose and coming back in pure and white. Slowly your breath will become thinner, shorter, naturaler, and smoother.

Eventually your breath will become the smallest it has been. Slight and quick. It will become a quick flash between your eyebrows. In this state you will have no conciencious breath and no thought. You will be totally thoughtless.

    THIS is meditation.

This method requires practice and you will find yourself falling asleep the first few times. It is a feeling I can't describe but I do it to clear stress. Many people assume meditation is for a certain religion or race of people but it really isn't. It is your personal choice to relax and relieve yourself of any stress or bad emotion in your body.

    The Modern Guide to Meditatian

It teaches you how to meditate. And informs you about meditation..that is it's purpose.

    The Modern Guide to Meditatian

The methods described are fairly clear, and in my opinion easy to picture in your mind, however, there are a number of people who do not find that so easy, so pictures would be a great addition to this guide.

Here is a video guide to meditation that would also be helpful to add at the end of the guide. Your guide is quite similar and thus it would be much easier to follow with this video. The video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0rSmxsVHPE

A final note, you may want to describe a little more your personal experiences with mediating (I believe you said you meditate in the conclusion of your guide). If we were to hear some of your testimonies, and possibly the testimonies of other users on Sythe that meditate, it would be more helpful. :)
