A new way of releasing server sources

I just had an idea a few days ago of a better way to release a server source, rather than taking the time to zip all of it's contents into a zip or rar file, and upload it, why not upload it directly to a subversion repository, the best part is that with a simple command you can update it anytime you want, in less than a minute. For example, right now I'm hosting my server on a subversion repository, and it's very quick and easy to simply update it, rather than, making a change and zipping it up and uploading it.

 

No way! I've never heard of releasing sources via SVN before!

 

I think It's a good idea, and it's also cross-platform, so anyone can use it! Windows users, Mac users, Linux users, BSD users, etc.

 

You cant actually host it can you just put files in here and update them when you want so people can download newer files?

 

Why couldn't I post the link of the repository? AND provide a zip for people who don't want to use svn. If I create both, people can download the latest stable version, and use svn for the latest development version, I tested my source, I uploaded it, and redownloaded it via svn, and the downloaded version works just as well. Why couldn't I post the link?

 

Or you could upload to uppit or someone or to your site via ftp really this is just for letting people download server files and i doubt people will use it.

 

Yes of course. But subversion, I will use to get the absolute latest dev ver.

Also, as I said before, subversion is a great tool for development releases, you know, releases that aren't 100% stable, but contain everything you have so far. Rather a release is a source that is stable and has a set number of features. Would you want to work on it every day and package and upload and create a new post for that new feature you did? No, you would just want to save it, thats what subversion is for. A major release is one that you feel is stable.

 

Well this aint a bad idea but you must make a good source im currently coding one it will be a very good source ill use SVN.
