    I would say Nirvana. They inspired as well as take over the alternative scene.

    Nirvana practically created the Grunge scene, so if you'd call that Alternative, yeah, I agree with Scamp.

    The bands MegaMatt said pretty much set the tone for 90's Alt., so Kudos, Matt. >.<

    Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, Bush, Alice in Chains. I personally find Nirvana to be the best of the best from the 90's.
