The anti-scam section..

The moderators are doing a great job with it. There is absolutely no reason for people to complain about their reports not being answered now.

Clearing up that section was a major feedback topic for a long time, and I think that the moderators should be congratulated for their time and effort. Great job guys ^_^.

Great job! I've also noticed that Darkgroove has helped a lot in the report a Scammer section. Thanks to all who are keeping on top of it!

 

w00h00!!! They can ban scammers faster now. That is amazing and takes so much work. Still pretty shitty though. Sythe gets about 3+ scammer reports on a unbusy day, and 5+ on a busy day. Half of them most likely don't even get banned for insufficient proof. Now you take 11,638x5 (lets say that everyone scammed a minimum of $5 obviously people have scammed more, and some are just ban evaders so it evens it out kinda) you have at least $58,190 that has been scammed on this site. They refuse to fix the problem and sythe himself has said for people to just use report a scammer as a guide to do background checks on.

But....

Congratz you guys!!! Way to waste countless hours for no pay, and no solution to the problem. Let them scam, ban them (just so you make members feel a little more happy), have them ban evade, scam, and ban again.

Should they do nothing then? It's not fun, profitable, or that effective, yes. But it's a better proposition then doing nothing at all. If everyone could simply scam and retain their Sythe account, without any type of punishment, (even if the punishment is having a account that they've spent time getting trust on, banned) then the activity of the site would plummet. People would have no closure, and no type of justice when their ten year old innocence is taken away from them. That would be Sythe's number one complaint, and if activity falls, then I'm sure the site would be taken down. It's just a necessary thing.

How can they fix the problem? I'm not being sarcastic at all, I'm just trying to see what they are not doing that would fix the problem entirely.

Response on the Report a Spammer section is just necessary. It's a forum, and if it's a good one, spam should be taken care of.

 

Well for one fixing the ip search thing would be a big help for the mods. Another would be actually ip banning scammers. I'm too lazy to post more things or give them away my methods and ideas.

We also had a pretty good market meeting awhile back ago last year and we discussed how to make the market safer. Some good ideas were brought up but nothing happened.

 

I'll ban IP's when they seem to have a main one. But, most people are already on proxies or have a dynamic IP. As for the IP search, I'm guessing it has something to do with the insane volume of IP's in the database. Apart from upgrading the site (or host, or whatever it is) - which I think Sythe said somewhere was too expensive to break even - I'm not sure what else could be done.

Scammers will always be a part of Sythe. Trying to get rid of them is analogous to Jagex trying to push RWT'ing out of Runescape - it would take drastic changes, like shutting down entire sections of the market, that would probably hurt the site more than it would help.

I know it's not a huge help to ban people, since most of them evade anyway. But, I figure it's worth something to ban their rep, limit the profitability of their efforts, and try to prevent them from gaining rank.

 

Well spoken, and I completely agree.

I would rather see multiple accounts get banned so they have no chance to climb up the ranks. We want them to be deterred from scamming. If they have to do a lot of work(say gain post count/vouches on a new account) they may just be lazy and say fuck it.

 

$58,000 is a lot of damn money. I doubt anyone would just be like "I just don't feel like getting 100 posts in 2 days and a couple free vouches from training 10 levels of stats".
