    The Ultimate Thieving Guide

Hello all, and welcome to the The Ultimate Thieving Guide. Here, I will teach the the basics, what quests give experience, quest requirements, how to get to 99, and more.

This is my third guide on Sythe, my first being "The Ultimate Zerker Pure Guide" and my second, "The Ultimate Range Tank Guide". Both have been verified and I hope the same for this one.

    The Thieving Cape

The Thieving Cape is only available for the masters of the skill Thieving, who have training it to the maximum level of 99. You can obtain the Thieving Skillcape from Martin Thwait, in the Rogues' Den, below the pub in Burthorpe.

    Getting Started...

Now its time to get started. If you want to get Thieving at a quick pace using the fastest methods available, then this is the guide for you. Now go to any city you wish that has lots of men walking around and pickpocket them until 5 thieving.

After about 5 quick minutes of work, teleport over to Ardoudge (if you have done the Biohazard Quest) or just teleport to Camelot and walk South-West. Go to the East Square.

Once here, head to the stall which will be this icon on the above map: [IMG] Now, steal from the Baker's Stall until 30 Thieving and throw away all chocolate cakes and bread, banking all of the regular cakes.

    The Feud

Now it is time to do the quest "The Feud". Use a RuneScape helpsite and it shouldn't take longer than an hour. The Feud should get you to 38 Thieving. If you have an Amulet of Glory, rub it and teleport to Draynor, or just teleport to Lumbridge and walk west. Thieve the Master Farmers until 45 Thieving.

    Blackjacking - 45 - 91 Thieving

Actually, Pyramid Plunder is not the fastest possible thieving xp at any level before 91. At 80+ thieving, it is proven that you can averaged 230k experience per hour using another method, which is significantly faster than the average of 160k experience per hour that Pyramid Plunder would have offered to to anyone in the 81 to 90 range.

That other method was blackjacking and pickpocketing Menaphite Thugs on the south side of Pollnivneach.

This can be done at 65 thieving and is definitely the fastest possible thieving experience in the game up until at least 91 thieving, potentially even 99 and beyond.

Similarly, you can go from 45 to 65 thieving by blackjacking and pickpocketing Bandits on the north side of Pollnivneach. The "Bearded" Bandits (level 41 combat) require 45 thieving while the normal Bandits (level 56 combat) require 55 thieving and give slightly more xp.

First off, for the people who just want the point immediately, the actual method is to attempt to knock-out the Bandit or Menaphite Thug; then whenever a knock-out succeeds, you pickpocket twice and go on to the next knock-out, and whenever a knock-out fails, you re-attempt the knock-out again. All actions take 1.21 seconds when done at maximum speed, meaning a round with no knock-out failure is 3.63 seconds, but each failure adds 1.21 seconds.

Now, since most people need a lot more explanation than that, I will go through the method in as much detail as possible.

You already have completed 'The Feud', so you already have access to blackjacks. You should now head to the Grand Exchange and Buy a Maple Blackjack (o). It is suggested, not required, to have a Regeneration Bracelet as well. It speeds up your HitPoints' regeneration, but is about 2.5M, so if you can afford it, it is helpful. You do not need anything else really, except maybe some cash to by wines, which heal 11 each, from the bar in Pollnivneach.

Now, there are very many ways to get to Pollnivneach. You can take the magic carpet from Shantay pass, or teleport to your house if it is located in Pollnivneach. You can also run east from the Camulet or Pharaoh's sceptre teleport spots near the Ancient Magicks pyramid, or teleport to Sumona using a Slayer Ring. The method you choose to reach Pollnivneach doesn't matter, but once you get there, you can stay as long as you wish.

At Pollnivneach, desert robes are not necessary as you are protected from the desert heat effect, so feel free to wear whatever you like. Gloves of Silence are also unnecessary as they are do not work when blackjacking.

To be able to blackjack-thieve, you must be out of sight of any of same NPC you are thieving from. To do this easily, you can use a room or building and close the curtains. When setting up your thieving room, remember you can use the "Lure" option on NPCs to move them around.

Where exactly should you thieve? To blackjack-thieve either kind of bandit (45 thieving required or 55 thieving required), I recommend you use Ali the Dyer's house, which is the small building with the ladder inside on the northeast side of Pollnivneach. You should use the Lure option to lure the appropriate bandit into the building, and lure any other NPCs out, then close the curtain.

At 65 Thieving for Menaphite Thugs, there are two buildings that work well. One is the narrow building west of the Snake Charmer that is divided in two rooms by a curtain. If using that buildling, you should use the Lure option to get it so there is one Menaphite Thug in the entire building, then close the outer curtain. You should not have another Menaphite Thug in the building on the other side of the dividing curtain because the dividing curtain will automatically open after 5 minutes closed (it is open by default and will occasionally reset).

The second building in which you could thieve Menaphite Thugs is the one to the west of the one I have just described. It is a small building and its curtain is closed by default.

Now, you might be wondering what the point of using a blackjack is. A blackjack is extremely useful because you can use it to knock-out the Menaphite Thug or Bandit for a few seconds, and during that time, pickpockets will have a 100% success rate, while still giving the full experience of normal pickpocketing.

It is possible to perform two pickpockets per knockout (three is impossible, so don't try ). When you are doing two pickpockets per knockout, you will only see one pickpocket animation because the animation doesn't keep up with the game. Don't pay too much attention to the animation.

To perform the method correctly, you need to time your clicks with the messages you receive in your chat box.

Here are the approximate messages you get and instructions on when to click. Menaphite Thugs ("thugs"] will be referred to, but Bandits would be exactly the same procedure.

As you start the method for the first time after a break in it, you should right-click the thug, left-click "Knock-out ...", then right click the thug again. Hover your cursor over "Pickpocket ..."

You can either succeed in the knock-out, or fail it. I will assume you succeed, and then discuss failure later in the guide. Assuming success, you chat box should move when the message "You knock the bandit over the head and render them unconscious" appears. The INSTANT that message appears (even a fraction of a second before it appears, if you want), left-click "Pickpocket ..." and then right click the thug again. Your chat box will move once as you get "You attempt to pick the Menaphite's pocket", then move again as you get "You pick the Menaphite's pocket." The instant the latter message appears (again, even a fraction of a second before, if you want), left-click "Pickpocket ..." and then right click the thug again.

Again, you should get the messages "You attempt to pick the Menaphite's pocket," then "You pick the Menaphite's pocket." The instant the latter message appears, or again, a fraction of a second before if you wish, left-click "Knock-out ..." and then right click the thug again.

Then, if you succeed that knock-out, you simply continue on with two more pickpockets in the same way and another knock-out.

Failing the knock-out is when you attempt to knock out a Bandit or Menaphite Thug and the message "I'll kill you for that!" appears, you instantly take 4 or 5 damage, respectively, and you do successfully not knock out the NPC.

Several seconds later, the thug/bandit will attack you. To prevent this from happening, during the time he doesn't attack you, attempt to knock him out again. If successful, he will cancel his attempt to attack you.

    Pyramid Plunder - 91 - 99 Thieving

Pyramid Plunder is a minigame in Sophanem. Travel to Sophanem. If you haven't player the game before, talk to Tarik outside the pyramid near the northern gates of the city. Then, attempt to enter the pyramid on one of its four sides. If the room is empty, leave and try another entrance. (Regardless of the entrance you used, you always exit next to the northern entrance.) Inside one of the entrances, you will find the Guardian mummy. If you haven't played the game before, you must talk to it to gain access to the inner rooms. In later playings, you can start by right clicking the Guardian mummy and selecting the "Start Mini-game" option.

The Guardian mummy changes rooms every 15 minutes, so once you find the correct entrance you can keep using it until the mummy shifts position.
The mummy may occasionally hit you as you try to enter the pyramid, which blocks you and does a little damage. This only happens at the entrance to the room containing the mummy.

As soon as you start the mini-game, a timer will start on your screen. You have five minutes to loot as much treasure from the pyramid as you can.

At 91 to 99 Thieving, you should be able to get about 220k to 270k per hour!

When picking what is needed to wear for Pyramid Plunder, you are looking for light weight and prayer bonus. The prayer bonus is for the use of the "Rapid Heal" prayer which couples with the Regeneration Bracelet, giving about 2 hp per 30 seconds. If you have 68+ Summoning for a Bunyip, then you can heal about 10 hp per minute. The Recommended equipment for Pyramid Plunder is Boots of Lightness ('Temple of Ikov' Quest), Spottier Cape (66 Hunter), Amulet of Glory or Ring of Duelling (to bank or leave when needed), and a Pharaoh's Sceptre.

If you have 68+ summoning, I suggest an inventory similar to this.

    Pharaoh's sceptre
    5 Super antipoisons (4)
    5 Super energy potions (4)
    3 Bunyip pouches
    1 Summoning potion

If you do not have 68+ summoning, make space for a dozen or so food (pineapple pizzas are good) by taking fewer potions. With 88+ summoning, you could use a Unicorn Stallion as your familiar, which actually can heal you enough to eliminate the need for antipoisons. However, using a Bunyip is easier.

The Pharaoh's sceptre is used to immediately teleport back to the Guardian mummy after finishing a game, thus saving you the trouble of searching up to four entrances to the pyramid. Using this method, it is possible to have only 10 or 20 seconds (depending on if you need to recharge the sceptre or not, which is required every third run) between games.

The super antipoisons are to protect you from the poison damage from snakes. If you didn't cure poison, you would lose about 30 hitpoints per game.

Neither a lockpick nor a snake flute should be carried as they reduce your xp or slow you down, respectively.

While teleporting, turn your screen so it is facing south. This is because you will need to go south to enter the first room (level 21) in Pyramid Plunder.

The instant you appear, or perhaps even an instant before, right click approximately where your character is or will be. Then, as you should have right clicked on the Guardian Mummy, select Start-Minigame.

Now you will be teleported into the first room.

You must first disarm the spikes on the wall. If you accidently get caught by the spikes, try to pass them (again). There is no delay after getting damaged, so you can actually click the trap to deactivate it without losing more than a fraction of a second.

After passing the spikes, click the closest or most logical door to try to open. You should try to click the door at the soonest possible second that the action registers (after your character walks for a couple seconds past the spikes, before he stops). Be ready to do any of these three things: Retry the door, click the next door, or click the spikes in the next room. Use your own discretion to determine the best camera angles, etc.

Drink your potions or eat when needed and when you can do it without losing time. A good time to drink a dose of potion is in the level 41 room when you are running to the first door which is on the east side of the room. I usually drank a dose of super antipoison during that time. Fit in your doses of super energy in other places.

I do not recommend searching any of the chests before the level 61 room, and I'd even call that one optional. But in the level 71 room, quickly search the chest before trying any of the doors.

Don't worry if your inventory is full when you search the chest. If you do find a Pharaoh's sceptre, which is quite unlikely anyway, you will be teleported out of the Pyramid with the Sceptre placed at your feet. You also can still get a Sceptre if you are carrying one as well.

You don't start getting your real xp until you enter the level 81 room. Loot urns throughout the room until it is time to go on to the level 91 room, then loot the chest and check the doors to find the entrance to the level 91 room.

There is variation in how long it takes to loot the entire level 91 room as well as variation in how long it takes to find the correct door to the level 91 room. Ideally, you should be kicked out of the level 91 room just as you finish it. It is not good if you have a lot of time left because that means you could have gotten more xp in the level 81 room; it is also not good if you run out of time in the level 91 room before finishing because that means you could have swapped the time you spent looting the lower-experience urns in the level 81 room with the higher-experience urns in the level 91 room.

If you get enough artifacts to recharge the sceptre, you don't need more. It is a waste of time to keep every artifact, even every gold one. You only need to get two gold artifacts per run to have enough to recharge the sceptre every third run! If you want to try to get ahold of some extra gold artifacts by dropping a stone artifact quickly after you loot each urn or while running to a door, go ahead, but it's a lot of trouble. Remember you can also recharge your sceptre with 12 stone artifacts, though gold artifacts are more convenient since you only need six.

If you do end up with many artifacts in your bank, keep them. Their value in fast access to the Desert Treasure pyramid- and thus Dust Devils, the Quarry, and the Ancient Magics altar- by far outweighs the tiny bits of cash that Simon Templeton will pay to you.

Banking should be pretty self-explanatory: teleport to Castlewars or Edgeville after you are kicked out of the pyramid, or, if possible, directly from the level 91 room after finishing it; simply bank your artifacts, withdraw new supplies, and teleport back to Pyramid Plunder.

Banking should take 30 seconds or less (counting the time from the end of the previous game to when you teleport back to Pyramid Plunder) if you have the supplies next to each other in your bank- super energy potions, bunyip pouches, summoning potions, and gold artifacts.

Even if you have the bank by Pyramid Plunder unlocked as a result of completion of the Contact quest, it is much faster just to teleport to Castlewars and bank there.

Now if you followed this guide, you should have done:

Levels 01 to 05: Pickpocketing Men
Levels 05 to 30: Stealing from Baker's Stall
Levels 30 to 38: 'The Feud' Quest
Levels 38 to 45: Pickpocket Master Farmers in Draynor Village
Levels 45 to 65: Blackjack-thieve Bandits in Pollnivneach
Levels 65 to 91: Blackjack-thieve Menaphite Thugs in Pollnivneach
Levels 91 to 99+: Pyramid Plunder or Blackjack-thieve Menaphite Thugs in Pollnivneach

Getting 99 thieving using the above methods will take approximately 70 hours. You will make about 2M profit from Menaphite Thugs and about 1M profit from Pyramid Plunder, assuming two sceptres obtained, or about 3M additional profit from Menaphite Thugs 91 to 99 thieving.

    Quests Giving Thieving Experience

Land of the Goblins (3000 xp)
    Hazeel Cult (1500 xp)
    Biohazard (1500 xp)
    Tribal Totem (1250 xp)
    The Golem (1000 xp)
    Creature of Fenkenstrain (1000 xp)
Spirits of the Elid (1000 xp)
    Tower of Life (500 xp)

Good luck on 99 Thieving or whatever level your goal is!
