Post count.

Well, the number 2 problem on sythe, is the spammers.. (first is scammers, duh... lol)


So, how do you fix that problem? Removing post count completely.. If you think about it, its a simple fix to stop spammers. Since there is no post count, why would people need to post "lol" or "9/10" or "w00t".

Post count does nothing to contribute to the forums.. Just because people are "Guru's" Doesn't mean they wont scam you.

Now, I know what your thinking, if there is no post count, you will just be a leacher as your user title.
The answer is, No, you wont.. The leacher, member, senior member, guru, etc etc, will be your join date. If you joined today, or this month your a leacher, if you joined 2 month ago, your a member.. and etc and etc.. There is no way they can spam to earn that..

Before you post saying, oh thats a stupid idea, just think about it.. And if your still not sure, just try it for 1 week or so..

So, you are saying if a person like Mod Shafig-I remembered his name for some reason- who joined in 2005, was inactive until now, should be more trusted than shredderbeam? No. Joindate doesnt mean they will not scam either. People are perfectly contempt with how it is now, and I am almost sure people can do the math, november join date + 600 posts + 50 posts a day, probobly not someone you would want to trade. Its common sense.

 

Lol, I gave that as an example, but if there was no post count, the thing that i bolded in your post, wouldnt happen.

 

I'm not sure this can be done with vBulletin. You can make it that you can't gain post count anywhere. I'm not 100% sure though, but there might be a way to enable this sort of system with the promotions and user ranks. I personally think its a good idea, but then this would lead to a little bit more scamming. Just because you are a senior member doesn't mean that you won't scam.

 

I would say we need the postcount, but I kinda agree with benwise, you can easily tell if he spams or not by post count/date.

But no, I would say we need to keep postcount, just ban more spammers.

 

Why do we need post count? It doesnt make you trusted because you have 5000 posts...

 

Good suggestion but I'm not sure if I support it or not. It's sort of an iffy subject. It won't really make things better or worse in my opinion. It'll just be a change that a lot of people won't like.

 

Post count in itself isn't the problem its the retards who see it as a representation of trust and then go get scammed. Its simply a display of the persons activity. And removing it wouldn't solve the scammer/Spammer issue.

 

It kinda would spam 2/3s of the spammers.. And this thread has nothing to do with scammers. it would stop people who join and spam 300+ times.

 

Well..Post counts are not as important as you say but it helps to differentiate active members and inactive members. Joined date doesn't mean you're trusted by that. Someone can join sythe and then wait a year later and said he's trusted. NO-NO.

Doesnt it bug you when people just post 1 or 2 words on your thread? They are just doing it to raise post count because THEY think they will be trusted by that.. but if you remove post count all together, they wont post 1-2 words because they wont recieve any post count..

 

If you remove Post Count, won't the Spam still be there?
-What the Mods are trying to deal with, is removing this Spam.

Yeh I get your point... but theres no reaspn to remove post count.
there would still be spammers and scammers.

 

Lol, this would lead to everybody being guru's at a point, and 90% of them being scammers. there would then be nobody to trust, etc. I don't think this would work, infact i know it wouldnt work.

 

that's a horrible idea.

But maybe we should add the whole figure in Post counts, activity, join date all together in some type of formula to make ranks.
