(Mostly) No Mod Activity on "Steam Account Sales" and "Other Sales".

First I'll quote this:

History:

• Nov 2009 - March 2010 there were a LOT of scams here and here;
• xeleration was the main Steam Account & Keys Sales (subforum need to be renamed, because many people most their keys for sale) Moderator, the most active, etc. last summer. He sold so many accs, etc. and earned in total of 400 vouches, then scammed for ~$3600 and banuted;
• After that there wasn't a very good and well moderation activity (here and here);
• Sengira was promoted to a Mod. He created this thread, which was a Sticky thread, but haven't updated the rules for ther other thread. Then few days ago (or maybe a week already?) dunno why and how, he was demoted to a user without any reason (even I've PMed him, so far no answer from him) - maybe busy at work, school, summer, etc., dunno, but more and more people are spamming people's threads on the two subforums, and therefore scamming;
• Now... there is no Mod anymore...

There is no Mod for Verifying people's low digits accs, pictures, etc. Sticky thread rules need to be updated again and more Mod activity. If there're no reactions, after only few months or weeks you'll see a bunch of scams reports and complains from people, like the period before xeleration (MW2's rls date). When MW3 be released also many people will sale many steam accs & keys with MW3 (like every CoD game so far, huh) and once again... scammers will earn a LOT of cash without doing anything special.

Yeah, I agree. We need someone to (more frequently) mod and verify accounts etc. I think the problem is that this is mostly a RS board, and most people don't have the experience with steam accounts and other cd keys etc.

Sengira was perfect, since he had a long background in steam sales and knew what was what, but I think it looks bad for sythe that we have a rule that 4 digit steam ids and under need verifying, but there's no one around to do it, effectively preventing sales. Also, the "need a cd key scan" rule just seems to have been dropped, with no enforcement.

What would be ideal is that, since we have OT mods, can't we have a mod just for the "other sales" section?

 

Under "Moderation Activity" I mean:

• Monitoring all (or most of all) threads incl. posts there (for offtopics, spams, trolling, flame, harras);
• Guiding the users (specially newcomers) how to do screenshots of the accounts, why they have to do that (because of the rules), etc.;
• Closing user's multiple threads (there is no admin all over the world, who wants a "big & slow forum DB" with useless posts);
• Doing all the stuff who belongs to a Moderator (infractions, helping, etc.).

People now have to (as you say) only "PMing someone from the Staff" or using the "Report" icon reporting... but that's not a fast (people scam in hrs/minutes! - reports are done after 24-72 hrs mostly!) & better way for all members, who're using those forum's subsections. That's the point.

Agree. "Steam Account sales" and "Other Sales" sections.

 

I think a solution with can be realized faster than searching new mods is searching more free MiddleMans.

 

How about this: instead of complaining about the problem and acknowledging that it exists, why not directly help aid the deficit. Name some names you'd think are worthy candidates and we'll get back to you.

Well, instead of putting all the work on one man's shoulders, you should pick at least two (for the steam section of course). One of the candidates could be STAUNCH_POWER himself. He seems to be an active member, besides, he cares about the order a lot. I guess this thread proves that he does everything very carefully while others just form a text wall

The second candidate could be me, but only if I would be the "extra" one. I know my limits and I could not take the responsibility to be the only one. I personally think that STAUNCH_POWER and I could form a nice team, but it is not up to me to decide. We have been in STEAM business for quite a while and I guess we both have proved that we know what we do and that we can be called trustworthy. Selling hundreds of accounts without any problems speaks for itself.

However, I would really like to see STAUNCH_POWER as a mod. I do not really see any other options.

 

I don't think there was ever a Steam only moderator. Now that Wulf is a Market mod, those reports should get cleaned up a bit faster then before.

I do agree some other sections do need moderators that aren't specifically covered by one as those reports are often not neglected, but stack up and get lost as I think in some sections only globals can take care of the spam reports.

 

I agree with the statement. As you know a lot of scams are occurring everyday. people are complaining constantly. I believe that Staunch is well qualified to be moderator. He knows literally everything about selling steams, selling cd keys and working with paypal and other payment options.

I usually message him for advice on how to make sure people's paypals are legit and if accounts can be recovered. Advice like that. He seems to be very well qualified.

No he did not pay me to say this or bribe. I just believe that his advice would be helpful to everyone especially the newcomers who fill the "Report a Scammer" with tons of thread of them being scammed. Like Staunch said MW3 will be out soon and I guarantee, someone will be "selling" keys. I think Staunch should moderate the Steam Account Sales section because he is on very often and he gives constructive criticism on new steam shop threads.

Seriously. Do you think the admins are going to read this and say
"We have no other sales mod...? SINCE WHEN???"
Let them do their job. This isn't helping the case.
Support of the suggestion ofc, but this isn't going anywhere.

 

I do agree with pokemoners and blade that instead of suggesting it, either PM someone you think worthy to an admin OR leave it be and try to report scammers / spammers / trouble makers on that forum.

I know a fair amount about steam, I've used it for 5 years + and have an account with 250+ games on it.
But I don't think i'd be a good steam section mod as I don't know how the recovery system and what not works.

 

I noticed there isn't much work on this section. But whenever I see RSProd online on MSN and I have some problems or so to report to him, I'll just buzz him up and he'll attend to it. No big deal. He will be busy at times but just hang on and just tell him and he'll handle the case. So it isn't THAT important.

 

I think the section should be kept clean and looked after but its finding a staff member with steam experiance so I guess the option is to pm a mod who covers that section until a replacement is found and they could deal with that section . So in summary I say pm a market mod with the issue until a more experianced mod is found and use the private message system to resolve it instead of moaning about it in feedback.

 

The problem is not lack of mod activity at all, it is the lack of people willing to report and acknowledge the reportable posts. If there were some more users that took the time to bring attention to the problems in the section there is many mods that I am sure would be more than willing to come assist. So instead of complaining about it here take the time to do something that any user can do, report posts or notify a moderator. If more people took the small amount of time to do this these problems would persist.

We need more than just 1 mod

 

This sounds like a great idea. That would most likely be something I'd be willing to spend time on. But this would have to go in the suggestions forum then, so we can suggest they make a moderator type that can moderate the other sales and steam section, as I think the market mods are very busy with the Runescape marketplace, and therefore do not have much time to moderate the Other Sales and Steam Selling Section, along with maybe not having too much knowledge on the stuff being sold in these sections.

As I've always used the Steam Selling Section more than the Other Sales section, I can safely say that without Sengira now, the Steam section will be a very "dangerous" place to trade in, so we really need to do something about it fast. I definitely support a moderator for the Steam Selling Section + Other Sales Section, with knowledge on especially Steam, and some knowledge in other RPG games and what is sold in the Other Sales section.
I think you should put this in the suggestions forum as soon as possible.
