    What Languages Do You Know?

I'm fluent in PHP, I know (X)HTML - Strict mainly, CSS, MySQL, a bit of JavaScript, a VERY little bit of C++, a tiny speckle of Java, and that's about it :p

    What Languages Do You Know?

I know VB.NET and C# fluently. I can also use VB6 and Java well enough to write small programs with. I've tried learning other languages like Python and C++ but VB.NET and C# just do what I want better.

    What Languages Do You Know?

I know VB6 fluently and I am currently learning C#. I once gave VB 2005 a shot, but I got angry (because I had no RAM thus was lagging like a bitch) and uninstalled it.

I currently program in C# mostly, but C++ sometimes too.

I can program in Java if need be, I'll just need a javadoc so I know which classes to use for what.

I know enough Visual Basic to write small applications in, but I thoroughly dislike the BASIC syntax, and Visual Basic 6 just fails miserably when you compare it with the .Net alternative.

I can work with a little HTML and CSS if need be.

    What Languages Do You Know?

Hey look! Swans made a post where he manages to diss VB6. Oh wait...

VB6 - Pretty much do anything i need in it.
VB.Net 2008 - Pretty much do anything i need, just takes me a fair amount of time.
HTML - Enough to make an ugly site.
CSS - Enough to align an ugly site.
PHP - Enough to edit scripts.
    C# - Very very limited.

Every programmer thinks their preferred language is the best :p.

I've never tried it, but I look to expand.

I thought about just diving into cpp, or perhaps trying out D, but VB6, I'll be honest, never crossed my mind. It just doesn't seem widely enough used?

You clearly have no idea how many VB6 tutorials there are on the net. And since people still use it there are always more being made. ^_^

The word "diss" may be used, I guess. However, I have no idea why you would use it when there is a better alternative; The .Net framework by far exceeds the capabilities of the original version 6 runtimes. Can you honestly tell me that it doesn't?

.Net is also easier to get things done from past experience. I used VB6 as a first language, and when I moved to .Net 2005, everything got easier, and started to make a lot more sense. The classes available for use are vast, easy to use for most occasions and get their job done quite effectively.

.Net developers are currently in higher demand. Loads of the tutorials for any language that you will find are redundant, because the average new guy will just copy and past the code rather than actually bothering to learn what it does, anyway. Quality > Quantity.

So people who use VB6 are more likely to copy and paste the code than a .Net "developer"? >_> And who's to say the quality of a VB6 guide is < that of a .Net guide?

I really do hope you get over your hatred of VB6. Seriously, it's getting old. If people want to learn VB6 then let them learn it.

I don't hate the language, it was excellent when it was released (late 90s, early 2000s?) but technology has improved, and so has the software. I just can't see why you would use it. Furthermore, you passing your opinion that VB6 is good isn't wrong. First of all, an opinion is personal, so it is correct how you see it. Second, VB IS a fairly good language, but newer versions call for an update; if the RuneScape world list updated, and you had an outdated RuneScape client with a decent user basis, would you leave the client outdated?

I simply said that quantity isn't quality. What you said is that there are loads of VB6 tutorials. I don't intend to argue with you, if it is possible to express opinions without doing so.

    What Languages Do You Know?

VB6 was released in 1998, I never have said VB6 is better than .NET. I'm not that arrogant. I know that .Net is better, hence why i have learnt a fair bit of it.

But for what i program, VB6 suits my needs much greater than that of .NET.
Not many people have the 3.0 Framework as of yet, and people don't like downloading large files.
When more people get Vista, that is when i'll switch to .NET.

Agreed. Now, we have all made great arguments and have agreed that .Net > VB6. But, now we must end the fighting, and live like hippies.

    What Languages Do You Know?

I'm very comfortable with C/C++/VB6 and some web programming like XHTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and MySQL.

I can use Java/VB.Net but it takes me longer as I don't have quite as much experience with them (although I'm currently working in Java).

Similarly, I can understand source code for programs in many other languages (ex: C#, Python, Delphi, etc) and may even be able to make minor modifications to them depending on the language.
