Why you shouldn't buy a name in the first place:

Jagex reads the Sythe forum every day, especially the Black Market folders, and we all know how anal they are about their rules.

As we know, selling or giving away an account is a violation of Rule 6 "Account Sharing/Trading".

Now that's not so easy (although it's not impossible) for Jagex to detect when somebody is "Selling Level 102 Pure", and that person obscures some of the stats to make the account hard to find.

When the person posts "I'm selling the name Imma_N00b", Jagex knows the exact account being sold.

Logically, the staff of Jagex will see all of these posts, put all such names being traded on their list, and check them once in a while to see if the IP range has changed---in other words, check to see if the account is being used by somebody other than the original person.

So when Imma_N00b, which has been advertised in the forums and which has been logging on from Seattle Washington for several months, suddenly starts logging on from Omaha Nebraska, Jagex will probably ban the account when a staff member gets around to checking the IP's of its "Names for Sale" list and sees the different IP.

Now the new owner of the banned account MIGHT be able to get the account unbanned by saying: "I moved" or some such nonsense, but that probably won't work, and Jagex will want every little detail about the creation of the account.

So if you're going to buy a name that's advertised here, be aware that there's a good chance that your name will end up with 10+ black marks.

What to do if you're going to buy the name anyway:

If you're going to buy the name anyway, be aware that there's an excellent chance that it will hit the Banned Bin, and of course you're going to want to get it unbanned. Just about the only excuse Jagex will allow is "I moved". If you say "My friend/relative gave it to me", you'll still be in violation of Rule 6. Jagex will want information to verfiy (to them) that you are the original owner. So before you buy a Runescape name, be sure that you get at least the first three bits of information from the seller:

1) The first password used for the account and any subsequent passwords.

2) Any recovery questions (and answers) that were set, whether or not they still exist.

3) The first password used for the account and two other passwords used, if more than one was used.

Jagex may also want:

4) The IP address and/or city (if it's possible to determine from the original IP address) when the account was created.

5) Members: Details of how payment was made (last four of credit card, Paypal address, an SMS pin, etc.).

6) Any of a hundred other details that you probably won't have.
