Explanation of the trade: Hired this guy too do some web-development work. Kinda didnt have a full structure set in place at the time of ordering, he claimed i kept 'adding' more things than what I initially paid for. There was no terms set in place, hired him for $250 of work, paid $125 upfront via Venmo.
How they scammed: "Paid an internet bill with my money, so now their refusing to distribute my money until he gets paid from another person hes waiting on money from'. He says he has no idea when hes getting more money, yesterday he said he'll issue a return, now today he says he has no idea when hes getting his money, so I figure he can deal with this claim until i'm paid back.

Hey, glad you filed this report as I advised you to.

Not disagreeing there is work here that is unfinished that he put a deposit down for.

The issue here is really that he agreed to my proposition for the work that was going to be completed, and then not only wouldn't let me work on it, but continued to message me with additional requests that weren't included as part of the original order.

I was and still am happy to complete the original order, given I had already spent several hours on it.


I told Koopa exactly what I was going to be doing (him agreeing to it here), but because he's doesn't think things through, he didn't even know what it is that he wanted. While I was trying to work on the order, he kept hounding me for updates and making new requests as I was trying to work on it.

I even told him I was working it into his platforms existing admin panel tools, which would've meant he wouldn't need to pay for that additional work, because me updating anything in the admin panel was not part of the original order. (me making sure he knows that here).

If you're going to hire a developer to work for you, you need to be clear about what you want because that's what the pricing is going to be based off of. If you're going to continually hound me while I'm trying to complete the work we agreed on and get upset when I don't respond, how I am supposed to get it done?

Even when I asked him to just let me work and do what he paid me for, his immediate response was to ask me where it would be at the next day.

Ultimately, none of this really matters, I'm just trying to provide some additional context. Koopa really isn't enjoyable to do work for because he's incredibly impatient and doesn't think things through. As far as I'm concerned, he's wasted my time when all I wanted to do was complete the work he partially paid me for.

I told him to file a report because I wasn't going to keep dealing with him, I know I'm not the only one who has had an experience like this with Koopa, he's impatient and irritable.

Regarding the refund

I'm not entirely opposed to a refund, but as I had already started working on what was paid for, I didn't expect there was going to be any need to issue a refund here, so I used the money that was sent as a deposit. I just paid several bills as it hasn't been the best few months for me financially, so didn't have the money to immediately refund him (it also seemed like there was some hope we were going to work something out for me to do other work for him instead of a refund).

I don't think it's okay for me to be completely willing to do the work I was paid for, and then after I've already started working on it, end up having to refund him because of his own poor choices and behavior. That's the exact reason I require people put down a deposit.

 

To further my own point, not that I think I even need to, in his own post you can see here that he admits to this problem being of his own doing.

As far as I'm concerned I'm not in the wrong here. You can't hire someone to do work for you, then after they've started on it change your mind and decide you want your money back because you didn't think it through beforehand. That's his fault, not mine.

 

Okay, so basically i hired bubly to do some front & backend work with a script i purchase off codecanyon built in Laravel 9 & PHP 8.X.

I asked him to redo our selling page with certain specifications pertaining to what text box will go on what page, etc.. I then told him too when we generate a form inside the admin panel under categories/managing (subcategories) pulling the ‘category’ data into the custom form so that we could categorize our huge game list + extra options too them.

I purchased his service back on wednesday, the 31st and he said this will be done before the weekend. I said perfect, great, proceeded on chatting with him & sent the money via venmo. 2 days pass and ive asked multiple times like ‘hey, hows it going, hows the progress’ you know.. i just wanted progress on what i paid for. 2 days pass and he keeps saying the same thing over & over, “oh still looking through the code, figuring out what is where, etc..” basically meaning nothing to me. I asked for screenshots of ANYTHING, he kept saying hes working on the backend. I said okay. Hes never once sent me any screenshots of any work too be completed. I dont care if im even looking at backend code, somethings better than nothing. Maybe i agreed on a few things he said, which i must have misread prior the fact, pertaining to what i needed done, etc.. I just want my money back. Hes shown me 0 proof of any work done, yet claims 6-7 hours of work are into the project, (which is hard to believe because i hired a fucking freelancer from india via freelancer & everything ive been looking to get completed upto this point) is now done, and completed in under 13 hours and paid $100 for it than his ‘250$’ worth of front end/backend work.

 

Wild to just blatantly lie, no your site isn't updated to how you requested it to be, I just checked and it still has multiple issues that arose during our discussions, such when you are listing a currency sale it still asks for account information, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I don't live in India, I'm not going to charge India prices.

As far as not seeing any evidence of work being completed, "i dont care if im even looking at backend code, somethings better than nothing.". Oh, well imagine that, I did send you some examples of code I put in place for specific items that were being worked on during the process: imgur.com but of course I wasn't going to just send you a bunch of pictures of code, why would that mean anything? I updated the design of the listing creation flow multiple times as I was working on it, when you're already wasting a bunch of my time continuously sending me messages I'm not also going to take the time to screenshot everything as I'm doing it.

I told you how I was going to set it up, all I wanted was for you to leave me alone while I did it. I did not need any other information from you at that point. When working with an unfamiliar codebase, of course I did my due diligence and spent time examining the rest of the project to make sure that I was handling things correctly so that you wouldn't experience issues in the future.

If you hire a contractor to do some work for you IRL, it doesn't matter if you're paying for the job or paying by the hour, if you decide to change up your requests while they are in the middle of completing the work and your new request isn't in the scope of what you already agreed on/paid for, that doesn't entitle you to a refund.

 

For the record, I'm done responding, we can wait for staff to provide input.

 

I'm happy to provide an entire chat log of our conversation per mods requests, because at this rate between 500+ messages, not even sure what was even agreed on at this point.

For the record, it's still a work in progress, but about 95% of the work is done in the amount of time it took you to work on 'backend' code? Literally have 1 page to edit and it's done and onto the next step.

I will leave it too staff. This service is about done and completed by a 3rd party user (freelancer) since he wouldn't of even completed the project by the desire time (the weekend which we're at already).

 

I'd appreciate a response/ruling on this from a staff member.

My point still stands from my previous post, I was willing and able to complete the work - the only reason that didn't happen is because he didn't know what he wanted and tried to keep changing things after work had already started.

I think a partial refund might be warranted here, but a full refund doesn't seem like a fair resolution as I had to put time into this and it falling out is entirely his fault.

I was literally sending you messages about what I was working on, sent multiple screenshots as well as a snippet of code for part of it, and was having an ongoing discussion with you about what we were doing. Absolutely nothing changes the fact this not getting worked out is your fault.

I've talked to multiple people that have tried working with you in the past and it's always the same shit with you. You're unclear, don't plan things out properly, and generally don't know what you're doing.

I couldn't give a shit about the money at this point, but there needs to be some sort of ruling on this so you can't waste other peoples time because of your inability to manage a project.

We can wait for staff to give input or request more information, I have no interest in having a discussion with you.

 

I would love too know who you 'spoke' with about the 'same shit'. Quite frankly, this is my first time attempting to 'hire' a quality web-developer. Before this I worked with service discords, & ran one of the largest membership code marketplaces. So please... be my guest and tell me. You've already been initiated a 10-day return from R-S which I can also provide too staff if need be (tomorrow is your 10 day mark btw).

Please show me your 'work' you sent me, you didn't do a damn thing. We're already past 2 weeks since I initially paid you and got a lot more work done with this website than you would already have.

I already offered you the fact that you could deduct some $ from what I initially paid way before I even opened this report. You denied and wanted to argue. Then proceeded that an '$125' internet bill was past-due 2 days after I already paid you. Sounds like you're the scam-artist here. Hence why I've opened the report now that's been sitting for almost 10 days because I want my full return at this point. Didn't really think I would need to bring too this extent because you're broke over a buck-twentyfive. Your RSPS services must not be going well.

Subtracting $25 (20%) of the amount, which is what you offered, is not adequate given that this was entirely your fault.

The whole point here is that this situation is your fault, which it is, and you can't even argue with that. I was willing and able to complete the work, the only reason that didn't happen was because you didn't even know what exactly you wanted. I thought we were still trying to come to some sort of resolution, before you hired someone else - who removed the work I had done. Again, that's all entirely your fault. You handled this entire situation about as poorly as possible, and that's why you don't deserve to just get a full refund.

 

We agreed on a 50% refund, which I've paid via ETH.
