    Thinking of buying more RAM...

I have a Dell Dimension B110, and I don't really care if it's crappy or not, I'm not getting a new computer, just wanna get some ram and make it run faster.

The computer comes standard with 512mb of ram, and one more empty slot. It's almost 2 years old, if that helps...

My only problem is one of my friends (reliable friend) tells me it's not good to have different size ram's in my computer. Should i buy one more 512, or go all out with 2 1gig's? All help appreciated thanks :)

It doesn't matter if you have different sizes.

What operating system are you running and what kind of RAM do you have (DDR, DDR2)?

Your computer requires PC3200 DDR memory. I would recommend just buying a 1GB stick so that you end up with 1.5GB of RAM total and you don't need to worry about selling your first stick or letting it go to waste. That will still be more than enough RAM for your PC running on XP. Look to pay around 45-75$.

As an example of what you should look for: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146545

    Yes I would go with a 1gb.

But is your computer a laptop or a desktop?

It doesn't take very long to Google "Dell Dimension B110" and come up with thousands of results and specification details indicating that it is indeed a desktop. That is of course how I figured out the type of RAM it would require.

Also what you need to check out and see what your motherboard is capable of holding. Yes you might be able to put two 2gb DDR ram cards in there but that does not mean that your computer will use all the ram because it won't be capable of it. Probably since your computer is an older computer you would want to buy a 512 or 1gb max, why waste the money for extra if it won't do anything?

Speed isn't totally about RAM. You would want to look at your CPU aswell. But no doubt more RAM would help.

well ram does help a lot out with speed, but you are right. You might want to get a new processor. Or if some newer games are laggy you might not only want some new ram but look into getting a new graphics card.

It's no problem, as long as you don't really continue to do so.

get 2gb ram at max. it's ddr 400 mhz (really slow) that computer is so outdated it might not even be able to read the 2gb ram.
