    Guide to improve your freethrows!

Hi, this will *hopefully* teach you how to improve your freethrow accuracy!

Alright, I remember one of my old basketball coaches saying that most people miss freethrows because they don't follow these steps.

    Step 1: get a rhythm

Now, I'm sure most of you have watched a basketball game on TV correct? Now I'm also assuming that you have seen some players take freethrow shots. Now most of them have a little routine they go through, before they take their shot. The reason they do this is so they get in the habit of following the steps. Like say in the morning, you always get up at 5:00 and do certain things in a certain order so you wont forget to do something. Same concept applies here.

    Step 2: find a target

Well this is the 2nd step our coach told us. Now after you do your little routine, aim at a target. Our coach said to start out aiming at the bottom of the rim. As most people throw it a little harder than they relies. If you miss it, then aim for the back of the rim, if you still miss go up to a little below the square and so on.

    Step 3: relax

Now this may be the most important step. What good is aiming if you're too shaky to shoot. Just imagine your by yourself on your own court, and try to just ignore the crowd, and the rest of the players.

    step 4: stance

Alright now that you have those 3 steps down, you're going to want to get the correct stance. You are going to want to
have your knees bent slightly, with your back straight. Almost as if you were sitting in a chair, but that was sloped downward.
Don't bend your knees too much. Also you're going to want your hand around toward the bottom, about 3/4th's of the way down

    step 5: follow-through

One of the most important things is the follow through. You're going to want your hand that's pushing the ball to kind of go up, then curve downward. Now that should be about the place the ball will go, so it's that you do this.

Now, after our team followed these steps our freethrow percentage went up immensely so I would suggest this to anyone who wants to become better at freethrows.

Edit: Can't seem to get pics onto my comp, emailed them to myself from my phone, but they don't show up. :\

You don't cover form, backspin, follow through, and stance...
I guess those are all the correct mental steps, just a bit small. You should have included what I pointed out above, it would have been a much better guide.

You know, this guide really turned my life around. I mean, I was a complete drug addict, a shoplifter, I even killed a prostitute for cocaine once, but reading this guide really influenced me into becoming someone who can shoot freethrows better.

    Thanks a bunch!

Good guide I guess, you do know that if you shoot a certain amount per day it also helps your free throw percentage.

I think that becoming better at free throws is all about repetiton as you practice more you get to know where to shoot and hence you get more in the basket. Although i do believe in relaxing and sort of the stance, i still believe it's all about the repetition. Repetition is the chariot of genius.

also, if youre going to be shooting more than one shot, after the first shot take a step back and relax, don't just stand at the line and wait for the ball back.

    Guide to improve your freethrows!

    Basic guide on freethrows.

If you can't hit freethrows, then you shouldn't be playing basketball. Simple as that.

The other team is basically handing you over free points, and you HAVE to take advantage of that.
