Hahahaha
Nice story lmao.
You're mom has a good heart, but meh.
I would have kept it, told her "I found 5$ on the floor"
And give her the 5 :P

I would have probably done the same thing. Give it to the cashier. Just because you find something does not mean you're entitled to it.

Wow, the greed of some people here on Sythe.
I would have done the exact same thing as your mother.
First off, it isn't your money, and picking it up and putting it in you pocket is the first thing you did wrong.
If no one was around you should have grabbed the money and proceeded directly to the cashier/manager/owner.
Handing over the money may not seem like a great idea as times are tough, but stealing is never right, and taking that money is exactly that, stealing.

It's not really stealing. Since the person lost the money, and has left, he won't be able to get that money back. Which means someone eventually would have picked it up. What was I supposed to do with the money, throw it away?

Yes it really is stealing, you took something that did not belong to you.

stealing: To take (the property of another) without right or permission.

You should have just given the money to the appropriate authorities in the store for two good reasons, the money wasn't yours, and to prevent others from committing the crime of theft. You do not know if the rightful owner were to come back looking for it.
That money might have belonged to one of your peers that had spent all weekend mowing lawns.
Someone worked for that money, and you decided that because the owner was not in sight, it was yours.

The cashier probably just pocketted the $40, seems like you lost out. But I had an experience like that when I was a kid. I was about 5, and at the circus with my gdad, I saw a $20 note fall out of some old ladies purse, I felt bad, so I walked up to her, and gave it back, and because I was young and honest, she decided to let me keep it. It made my day.

I understand both sides of the coin.

Less than a week ago, I lost 300 euros in Germany. That pissed me off. It wasn't returned, and the thought of someone else enjoying my money makes me feel sick. I think it was good of your mother to consider the person that had actually lost their money.

Your mothers an idiot.

First, by law if I'm not wrong all lost items/money must be handed into police. If no one claims in within 24/48 hours you get the money.

So back to the idiot part.
She was greedy and kept the money for herself, even though most people would've.
Buying flowers for church has nothing to do with anything, no different from buying it for her husband or boyfriend.
She then felt sick and decided to give it so some random...

If she was going to give the money back, why not just hand it into the police, o gee It's hard enough to ask for a good Samaritan, is it even harder to ask for a smart one?

I should probably add my standpoint.
Nothing wrong with really keeping money you find, its probably human nature. But if your going to give it back to someone, atleast give it back to the police IN THE HOPES that it'll get to its original owner.

I don't understand this at all, first off you said that you were walking to rite aid, so assuming you was out on the street, why the hell would your mother give it to a cashier? Also anyone saynig that his mother should of given it to a cashier i'm pretty sure if someone lost $40 in the street they're not going to walk to the local store and ask a cashier for $40. o.o

First of all, finders keepers! Second of all, what do you mean you'll slap you're mom because she gave it back? Get some fucking manners and respect first! Anyway... I think that she should of let you keep it. Giving it to the cashier was a good thing to do, however, the cashier is most probably going to keep it for their self. If you found the money on the floor, you haven't done anything wrong, its not like you stole it. If you was walking and you saw the person drop it and you took it, you should give it back as that's basically theft and that's wrong, however that isn't the case, you was aright taking it. You're mom done a good thing, this shows she's a good person. Keeping it wouldn't of been a bad thing though. Anyway just forget it ever happened!

Moral of the story is, always lie to your parents. ;)

Hell nah, $40 on the ground is fair game. Flowers are overpriced and essentially useless so that would be a waste. And what the hell is a cashier gonna do with it?
