    Misanthropy

Misanthropy - a general dislike, distrust, disgust, contempt, or hatred of the human species.

How does one become a misanthrope? Does it come down to the Nature Vs. Nurture debate?

How do you think people become misanthropes?

In my case, it was mainly due to the feeling that I was better than anyone else, so I never let anyone get close to me and avoid talking with people any more than I have to.

Oh yeah. I forgot the whole issue of superiority complexes.

Don't you think that's kind of vague. What would humanity have to do to lose YOUR trust in it? If you haven't already, that is.

Some people grow up without anyone actually being nice to them. If people have let you down and abused you for your entire life, it's natural to dislike them.

Of course, the more this happens, the more you dislike people, the less people attempt to help you and the more you hate them. It's a vicious circle and you start to justify your dislike.

There's two reasons for this from a psychological stand-point.

The first being past experiences, and things that eventually shaped such opinions. The other is a self-serving bias.

In all honesty, most misanthropists are the latter. They blame others for their failures, and for the lack of success in life. If they're successful, they look at others as ants, and feel above them.
