    Interview tomorrow

    Hey,

So I have an interview tomorrow at a call centre and have been out of work for just over 6 months now. I feel a little off touch with interviews and am struggling to answer basic questions such as "why do you want to work here" or "when have you gone the extra mile for a customer". Im also very nervous about it as its an hour and a half with a English/maths test.

Could anyone give me some basic pointers and encouragement if possible.

    Thanks

You'll be fine. Just think of it as a conversation, I interview people every week and I honestly can't remember 95% of them a week or two later so there's nothing to be nervous about. It's intimidating and awkward for the person/persons interviewing you, too. Some things that stand out to me are when the person has clearly bothered to research the company a little. Look the place up online you're interviewing for so you seem informed and can work that information into your answers. It's very obvious when I interview a person who has just been sending their resume around everywhere as opposed to a candidate who has taken their time to look up the company they're interviewing for.

Dress smart, ask questions and leave a good impression. Show them why you'd be an asset to the company.

    Good luck!

    Interview tomorrow

Dress smart and iron your clothes.

Research the company, read the annual report, often posted on the website.

Search the company or similar roles on Glassdoor, and then compile a list of questions and write your answers for them. You can practice these Infront of friends, but it's important you don't learn a script as it's obvious, just have things in mind.

A lot of the time people try to create complex answers to questions like "when did you go the extra mile for someone", but really you can use any example, like if you worked in a supermarket and helped an old lady get something on the top shelf, they just want to know you understand what good customer service is and are a decent human being.

Understand these nerves mean you are outside of your comfort zone, and then appreciate that as it means you are growing and will learn from this experience. If I'm ever I'm that situation I just tell myself, even if this doesn't go well or I don't get the job, I'll at least be better next time. Just like the Henry Ford quote: "Failure is just an opportunity to start again, but this time more intelligently". Not saying you will fail but get confidence from you being in this process.

You can do it! Update us on how this goes.

Don't get disheartened. Getting a job requires persistence and learning from the experience. Write down what you think went well, and what did not. Think about both of these and then apply it to your next interview.

Also Google Jordan Peterson self authoring. I think you would really benefit from that.
